What to do with the ceiling??

We are painting our house and I would like to get rid of the florescent lighting before painting the kitchen. I would like to keep in recessed and maybe put in some crown moulding with led light strips on top, but my dilemma is the irregular shape of the existing lights. Any help would be super appreciated.

The room is narrow. Anything that runs long ways in the room will make it look narrower. I think you will need some construction for your idea. Place your led lights as close to top cabinets. There will be light over the countertop and work spaces. Hope this helps you.

You're right it is very long and narrow. My problem is that I think there are some kind of ducts running along the ceiling so I may not be able to open it up.

All you can do is take out the lights and have a look but my suggestion would be if they can come out just drywall and leave it plain , you have a lot going on in this narrow space sometimes less is better.
