I am unsure how long the wall is that your mirror and plant pot is against ??? But I think you have done such an amazing job and you want to show it off, I would go red on that big wall that is facing on to your dinning table and chairs. carry it on through to sun room room but just one wall in there and on any other wall just brilliant vibrant white.
In the kitchen just buy wide slat blinds in wood and make color white and buy ascent things for in the area of your kitchen as in red kettle, toaster, tea towels ,in red and white and then it shall complement the rooms on either side of the kitchen. Big rug under the table red and white be bold.
I can see your skirting is white and it shall make the wall pop. Maybe add some floating shelf's in white one big one med and the last one small just place them on like a set on steps one foot down below the other. or what ever you see that will make it stand out as in a plant or a ornament you will work it out how it should look. One more thing lighting very important and you must get it right so look at your kitchen and think were you need to add the light for to see what you are working on first then look to see what would look good with a light on it so to stand out, Also mood lighting for the lovely dinners together and dinner party's to set the mood in your dining room. never waist your money lighting up sink and lights that will cast a shadow its just a waist of money and does nothing.
look I have said and done as much as I can as I cannot see to much of each of the rooms on each side of your kitchen but feel free to come back to me if there is some thing you do not understand good luck.

Since you already have orange furniture would not paint that area orange but maybe you can paint one wall to please the hubby.

We really do need paint. I primed about 80% of it myself and then got tired of it and decided I might hire someone, there is a lot do woodwork too. The leather chairs are a light brown but do look very orange in the photo

Another way to go about this is what color do you think is best...honestly there are very few "wrong" choices if you like it.

I am thinking that the two window walls in the dining room would be good accent walls. An orange I've used with rave reviews is a subtle one, SW Chivalry Copper. For a small area you could use something stronger, but if you're doing a larger area CC is great!

That's a nice color Carolyn...I was thinking coral to Tera cotta for the next round.

In photo 2 that is part of your opening statement, you would put it on the wall visible in what looks like, and I'm hoping, is the dining room, plus the wall to the left, or only the one wall if you prefer.

Honestly, the colors on your wall are all very similar. I like the dark linen color...works with the lime or Carolyn's copper. Here's a yellow to add to the mix...BM Lemon Meringue.

Ben Moore has new color UMBER in the Williamsburg collections. A unique color that is nothing like umber. . I suggest that or medium gray.

DC we vacillate between neutral so that the whole downstairs will have unity and them the total opposite, something bright / bold / fun. And that's why we can't pick

Ah, but you can have a single neutral with an accent color. You can even have another accent color away from the first one.

Ok...so paint is easy to change...unlike husbands :)

Try something and if it doesn't work, try something else. The colors suggested here are fairly muted, but make a statement.

As Carolyn says, the neutral provides the continuity in an open floor plan.

I'm not your typical decorator type. I'm hopping to get this right the first time since I may be doing the work myself, and never deal with it again.. So, it seems like its a neutral with one accent wall. Do those accents go with the wood floor?

Actually, I think they all will. Get samples and paint them on a poster board to see in large scale and how the color changes over the course of the day with changing light conditions.

The colors should go with the wood flooring but that's why we want you to make sample boards of the colors you're considering.

It might be! An accent wall should always be a very visible wall. Maybe you could show us how the dining room looks from what is beyond it.

true dat, toats. really, efetz, painting isn't all that bad. It's key to get yourself a good cutting-in brush, and you can really skip the taping carefully etc. I have done it so many times, I don't even bother to tape anything! I got a flat 3/4 inch artist's brush (just like the one pictured) for fine detail work, and a nice 1 1/2 inch angled brush with very straight bristles for speedier cutting in. Then I use a lightweight, sometimes even a small, roller because the big ones get so heavy. Then, go for it. One wall a day... it gets done when it's not so overwhelming.

So I think the double window wall with your island and hood become your accent wall...Carolyn, what do you think.

There's too much going on with the dark shutters over draperies for me to want to call attention to that wall. I think that's a problem you need to conquer before worrying about an accent wall. I don't understand why there would be shutters over draperies, or why shutters would not be painted the same color as the trim around them.

Carolyn/DCLost. --- Im not sure why the shutters are brown and the trim is white, but there are other homes in NJ with the same look. Upstairs the whole window is brown shutter.
Should we go with one color for the kitchen & DR and another hue of the same color for the LR?

First please paint the shutters white. I think one color for the kitchen, dining room and living room would be fine, but if there's a good place to change to a shade darker in the living room, that could also work.
