Savoy House ships this item with an 18" downrod. The shortest downrod they make or recommend for the fandelier is 12", which we can get for you after you make your purchase. You can attempt to cut the downrod a little shorter than 12", but Savoy House does not recommend doing so as it puts the shades very close to the ceiling and it will look odd. If the fandelier is hanging over a table, such as it would in a dining room, it is OK to have it hang a little lower than you would expect for a fan...pretty much like how you would hang a typical chandelier from a chain.

thank you. It is going into a small sitting room, not over a table. So if it had a 12 inch downrod, what would the total height be? thank you...Kathy
