Amanda Eider White definitely does not translate as gray imo when covering a large wall. I agree that it looks gray next to other grays. The colors just influence each other too much when they are next to one another. I went with light French gray and I love it but I wanted light gray!

Light French Gray was on my list as well, but after seeing Agreeable and Passive gray on the wall I think its best that I chose a white with gray undertones rather than a gray. Which is what I had originally thought I wanted in my kitchen. Im really struggling with a white that reads warm while not yellow. Im also considering Zurich White and Origami White, but Im descending into madness and about to just call it quits and go with EIder. The skinny strip of wall is Eider, to the right is Agreeable Gray. Please excuse the broken pantry door. Im making my way there. Any thoughts? I live pretty far north so I dont get much sun, I have a large easterly facing window that give me sun all day if the sun is out and a southerly facing smaller window. Trim will be Simply White.

I would go agreeable gray personally but I had such a bad experience with eider white my view is biased! I love light French gray and I think I would have been just as happy with repose gray. In the samples they both looked too dark for me but in actuality with the full wall they were lighter! And again my sample of eider White looked very light gray but once on the walls (and completed) in many places you could definitely see the magenta undertone that is in it. When it didn’t look pinkish it was white.

I also found out that the samples have a different formula than whatever end product you buy even though they call it the same color. Weird I know...

I would go with Repose. Looks similar to my BM Abalone. I love it.

I love eider white. It’s a light grey. Once your whole space is painted it will not read lilac or pink.

Try BM Classic Gray

@abick2 It looks great in your house! I wonder if your flooring helps. A lighter and orange-y flooring (like red oak) might cause it to read more pink than that.

@abick2 can you tell me what color your trim is? I am thinking about doing Elder white, but we have dover white as our trim and I do not want it to clash.

Gray Owl BM is the perfect light gray. It has no underlying undertones which means it reads as light gray all the time no matter what the light source is. Highly recommend!!

I just used Eider White for most of my interior walls (w/ Snowbound for ceiling) and love it! If you look at a large space covered in EW, it looks pretty white (especially at first glance), but next to white trim, you can tell it's a very pale, gentle gray. Obviously, your lighting will affect how it looks too, sometimes it looks a bit more white, and others it looks a bit more gray. However, I do not see any pink or purple undertones regardless of the light in my home. I highly recommend EW if you're looking for a less intense, slightly more sophisticated "white."

Sooo… I've been reading everyone's suggestions and input.. I'm in the same dilemma here. I am searching for one 'putty' off-white color for all the walls in older home that I recently purchased. Looking at some of the feedback, it appears that the EW does come out pink on the wall. My question is.. for those that it did come out pink, what color or tone is your floor ?? I have older, more traditional hardwood (narrow plank oak) that are lighter (maybe a little more yellow if that makes sense).. I'm wondering if that will turn EW into a more pink, and that for those that it did not turn pink on, I'm wondering if your floors are more walnut or gray based then an older more traditional floor that has 'yellowed' over time. I considered and did paint a room Pediment, but it has lavender undertones and I have ditched that. I'm considering Egret White. It's somewhere between Pediment and Crushed Ice.

My last home I used Crushed Ice and LOVED it. However, I had walnut floors and it was more modern and got a lot more light than some of the rooms of my new home. Just wondering if any of you have used Egret White and what the results were. All the trim will be Pure White

I used crushed ice too. Eider white is a tiny bit lighter, but to a point where you won’t be able to tell a difference once the whole space is painted.

The closer wall on the right is eider white (not that white) and the dining room is crushed ice. If on the picture you see a difference it’s only due to light, in reality my eye can not tell the difference at all.

I have Crushed Ice in my guest bath and it looks significantly darker/grayer (but still not dark) than my Eider White walls in the living room (which has a good amount of natural light). My floors are a medium-dark brown.

I've used Eider White extensively in my basement remodel. One gallon did show pink and I returned it to the store along with a painted board of the correct color match. Now when I go to get an additional gallon or a gallon after selecting from the sample I have them check it against my paint sample. Of course I haven't had a problem since. They told me that whites are very hard to match because there is so little pigment a small variation makes a big difference. Overall I really like the color of Eider White, and the contrast with Pure White and Repose Gray.

Does anyone try "classic gray" here? I am debating if I should get "eider white" or "classic gray" for warm gray color.

I ended up using the Heron White instead of the Eider White. It has a little more natural putty / beige in it than the Eider White. Looks nice against Pure White trim

I know this is an old post, but we painted several rooms with Eider white and it pulls a Rose/Pink tone really badly!!! we have Light French Gray and love it, but trying to find a color that is lighter to use in hallways and bathrooms. Eider White- be careful!!

I'm trying to decide on a white for cabinets which is how I found this post. Just an FYI Incredible White is one under from Agreeable Gray just as Eider White is under Repose Gray. Also Aesthetic White is under Accessible Beige. Might help next person who lands on this post.

I just painted my bedroom walls with eider white today, looking for trim inspo. Depending on lighting and decor, I feel like it reads notes of grey, purple, and neutral. And perhaps blue. Overall I am happy with the way it turned out for my bedroom.

For me, I see blue undertones. (Sorry for the messy room)! I guess it strictly depends upon lighting.

I wanted a lighter version of repose gray for my ceilings and eider white did not match well with repose gray. Eider white shows purples and Blues. I decided to cut the repose gray with white to get a lighter version

Abick2, what color are your floors. We have honey oak floors and our Eider white ended up showing a pink undertone. When the natural sunlight hits it, it looks nice, an ever so pale white gray. But when there’s not much natural light which is our living room, master, and upstairs hallway, it looks pink and not very pleasant. So we decided to refinish our floors to darker color. Your floors are what we envisioned or something like a grayish brown.

Jay rock do you know the color of your floor? We are refinishing our floors so our eider white walls won’t look so pink. I’m debating on something darker like ebony or something more med dark brown .?

Eider white looks best with natural light. If you have a north facing room eider white will bring out more of its purple undertones. And, in picture it depends too on what you have in your room as fixed elements. Goes great with black windows and doors. It shows off its best color if you use something like sw extra white or pure white... neutral non-sterile white paint that goes with both warm and cool undertones.... on trim and doors. Snowbound has more gray in it and would look duller and Alabaster has more yellow which would not compliment it,

Eider white looked pink on my walls. SW replaced for free because they were supposed to warn anyone buying this paint that it has pink undertones and I was not told. They even had a sample board painted with Eider white to show customers. Unfortunately, it was put away when I purchased the paint.

So glad I found this post. I have been considering Eider white but after reading this thread, I am concerned that my red oak floors and lighting will bring out pink on the walls. It seems so similar to Benjamin Moore Classic Gray, but I guess that color doesn’t have the same undertones. My contractor uses SW so unfortunately a Ben Moore color won’t be an option for me, but maybe that’s the answer for those who want Eider White without worrying about the pink undertones??

I have read through most of this. I hope someone can help me. I am using snowbound all throughout a lake cottage I am building, walls and ceiling. I want to do the trim a darker color. I have been seeing this and love it!! I have seen a lot of repose gray as a trim with snowbound walls. But, I have considered eider white as I was worried that the repose gray would be too dark. But, the other worry, which my husband has pointed out, is that there may not be enough contrast between the snowbound and the eider white. Can anyone give advise on this dilemma??

@Melissa Haydon McCormack we ended up going with SW Ice Cube. I felt confident that a cooler tone would not bring out any red.

I got my whole house painted in eider white - new home, it was the stock color that came with it. I agree that it has blue-ish tones to it - has a neutral light grey feel in the day light that mellows out quite a bit in the dark. I think it’s super neutral. I don’t see the pink undertones mentioned above. I have lots of natural light in the house so I rarely need lights during the day and in the evening we mostly use more under cabinet lighting and lamps at task areas so I could imagine the pink tones mentioned above are probably dependent on the color of bulbs you are using in the house and how much you rely on them. White trim work looks great with it, btw.

How did the Eider White with Repose Grey trim turn out?

This is what I am thinking of doing! Or Snowbound with Repose grey trim? The house we are purchasing has repose grey trim, with partial cabinets repose grey, so I can't change the trim right now.

I am also thinking of painting the walls a warmer version of Repose with Gossamer Veil, so it almost looks like one color. Thank you for any opinons. There is a lot of natural northern light.

Another question: Opinion on what to paint cabinets and walls? Maybe all repose grey, but leave back dark wood bottoms cabinets wood?

My house is Eider white and I love it , it’s very light gray and my trims are extra white, they look very good with trims .I don’t have any pink or purple undertones .
