I recently installed a wood floor, we decided to go with a natural oak. Our thinking was add a light colored floor to keep the room bright but if I could do it over I would definitely go darker. With all the light coming from the glass doors I think the darker floor would make the room pop.

I think dark wood floors are very classy. If you have a lot of natural light coming through windows you dont need light floors.

Hickory nutmeg will provide a richer feel to the room.

It depends on lighting and your furniture. If the floors are too dark then all the dust will show and you will be forever cleaning them. I prefer the traditional medium stained oak floor because of the oak grain it always looks good. If I were to pick then the answer would be hickory. But what colour are your kitchen cupboards and the stair railing going to the second floor. Best advise is to keep them all the same. Hope this helps

Once again, Mark has the clearest, spot on comment. Your right, though, the cherry looks more maple on my iPad...but I think the hickory would be lovely.

Hickory for sure. To dark shows dust to much

Or lighter floors in the kitchen since I don't have any natural lighting with either or styles of cabinets
