Getting there! Kitchen transformation- needs final touches

We bought this 1970's diamond in the rough two years ago and it is finally feeling like something we can live in. The project has been longer than planned, but we have done well with our budget. I am not great at design aspects so any advice on how to make the kitchen "pop" would be appreciated. What do I put in the glass cabinets? What about the window coverings? I always go for nothing on the windows as I love the views but does that make it less homey? Any suggestions for finishing the space are much appreciated.

HI -- That is a great transformation . I like the hits of red/orange I see --- continue with that in some décor items . For what to put in the glass door cabinets . You could add the accent color to the inside and then display any glass or dish collections . Keep it minimal (same color ) and well placed as in - not too much . If this is going to be to hard to do because you need the storage , then frost the glass so it not such a display feature. For a window covering , so it isn't so much as a covering , you could just have a semi sheer fabric in a relaxed roman . Or have a light woven roman style blind or one of the new blinds they have at Hunterdouglas.com

Some red fiesta ware in the glass cabinets would be ideal.

What a gorgeous transformation! Personally, I'm always a fan of bare windows, but I think it comes down to personal preference. You could always get a patterned dish set and put in in the glass cabinets for display!

It looks great!! I would add some pulls to the cabinets for a more finished look.

Very pretty. I, too, would add proportionately sized pulls and leave the window bare. I love a view.

How about a roman blind? You still get the view but it will add some more style. I would choose a fabric that ties in the backsplash and/or flooring color. Also, you can add a stainless range hood.

mica04- thanks for the suggestions! We have a range hood already, just isn't installed yet- we just talked about a roman blind for the window- thanks for the suggestion. The sun is really strong at times so we need something (despite my preference to go bare!)

michele1975- thanks for commenting on our bead board ceiling! It was the easiest way to cover up the 1970's crazy plastered pattern one that was there. Kind of a shame since they are high quality plaster ceilings and very well done, just too passe for today. My father-in-law hates the bead board and thinks we should have left the finely crafted ceilings alone!

An unexpected color such as violet or melon would be an fun accent.

Beautiful. How about a touch of soft yellow. On stool. In glass cabinet. And flowers on dark counter

I have a large window like yours in my kitchen and I just ordered a cellular shade- no cords- easily goes up & down. I love it on the window and controls the blinding sun.
