Is there a choice of neither? I think you can do better than the two selections... back splashes either make or break a kitchen redo.

Neither. Go with a tan shade. It will warm up the space. The gray colors look dull and dirty.

Neither, unless you want to date your kitchen and be tired of it at the same time. Both the color grey and glass tiles are going to be out of style. A warm tone neutral, in a classic tile would be best.

A nice travertine would be a classic look, and not get dated as quickly. But it's your house, so do what you like.

Travertine as Carol mentioned is a good choirce. Something light tan, a natural color like sea oats or light khaki pants.

I think you should use something along the lines of the darker tile, but it looks a little too grey relative to your counter selection.

Why not do it in a full sheet of glass in the colour of your choice (I prefer Mist) - it will be much less busy. The granite is very busy already.

Mist but a white ceramic creamy stone would be better.

I agree with Carol and PPD. My granite and cabinet colors are similar to what you have and my backsplash is a beige/tan trav with a hint of gray and I love it!

I just put up a new "backsplash." Ceiling tile pattern paintable wallpaper, painted dark brown, light coat of Rust-Oleum metallic accent paint (Champagne). I also painted the counter top with Gianni Countertop paint. Low cost in case I wish to change in future. Attached pictures are before and almost after. Shine of the backsplash looks better than photo.

Oh, I like the ceiling tile idea. I have a little area that I'm using as a 'morning kitchen' that needs something but I don't want to do anything expensive because it probably won't stay as a kitchen long term. That could be a nice way to add interest and protect the wall a bit without breaking the bank.

Very easy to do. Whole backsplash project was less than $50.

If it's between the two, I think I would use the darker one as the lighter one may take on other colors once installed but my personal choice would be to use some other tile as subway will be dated someday soon. - Just my opinion for what it's worth.

The gray does look better next to my white cabinets. Trying to find a gray subway tile now

We tried white, off white, and pearl subway tile samples and these colors did nothing but look blah when put beside the cabinets. So far gray is the best contrast.

Luckily I did not have to decide. I could not imagine so I say just go with what you like and in your budget and enjoy:)

Two comments: (1) Subway tile is a classic, not a trend. The fact that the average American finally discovered something classic made it a "trend." (2) The predominant color in the granite will have the longest life in your kitchen, thus I agree with those who suggested a warm neutral (cream, beige, etc.). Failing that, go with the granite as a backsplash or use a 4" granite backsplash.

Definitely, do not use either! I agree a tan to match one of the colors in the granite would work better.

I was in a 485,000 open house recenltly. The lady was a decorator, and she had her backsplash painted the same as her kitchen with some small art work and decorator pieces. It was the best look I have seen. I am building a new home and am planning to paint with my granite counter tops. You can always change the paint, but it would be too much trouble to change the tiles. .........paint a section the color of the subway tile. This may help you decide if you really like that the subway tile color.

Gray seems to look the best. Someone is trying to find me a gray ceramic subway tile. If they can't find the right color bluish gray, i will go with the smoke glass

If your floors are dark, I'd go with the lighter backsplash (and vice versa).

Those tiles are the wrong colour. You need a warmer colour to go with the granite.
