The first one is way too busy, IMO. Your counter is very busy, so you want a backsplash that is not. I like the second one. Make sure you use grout that is matches the lightest color in the backsplash. Otherwise, this will look busy also, with busy grout lines.

Do you think I should go darker?

I would need to see more pictures, but I see no reason to go darker on the backsplash. For more permanent fixtures light backslashes, I recommend lighter and more neutral.

Why do you want darker?

The cabinets are fairly dark and you have dark appliances. It is going to look like a dark hole if you go with dark tile.

The busy tile is going to look dizzy.

That is my opinion.

Now, something else.....now that I see the tile on the floor, that floor tile looks more brownish. Maybe it is my monitor......how does the backsplash look with the floor tile?

I like the second one better. I personally don't love glass tiles because I feel like it it too modern.

I agree with CDR, second one is more restful for the eyes. Dark grout will be just one more thing that your eyes will be drawn to, just too busy.

Stick with a classic subway tile and let the granite be the star. These fancy multi colored tiles should not be used for a back splash with granite. If you look at kitchens on Houzz the best ones have a glazed subway tile. It's timeless and classic. You will love it forever, trust me. Cannot see the color of the granite to specify a pink undertone or yellow? Be careful with your undertones.

Small scale subway tile applied in a herring bone pattern would add some texture and motion. From what I can see the walls to be tiled are relatively small so I wouldn't overdo it. For color you can stay neutral by keeping to a medium tone taken from the countertop.

I like the first one! We took a chance on a similar pattern with our kitchen. Before the backsplash, the floor was our jazzy addition, but with a little nudge from a friend in the marble business, we selected "Golden Gate" from European Marble and Stone in Sarasota FL. Its not real nuetral and its not for everyone, but we LOVE it and feedback has been very positive.

I like the light colour choice but like the previous poster, I would pick a uniform tile.

I would say about about 6" width subway tile. I would go with something more like the color that indianpatti posted. Bring home a few and post and we can help.

Look into a noche travertine in the subway format. it is just a little darker but when you color enhance the final product it will bring out the color in the granite. Be sure you use under cabinet lighting or your just wasting your time. The lighting brings out the color in the stones.

Our kitchen for a while now, but ready for a change.

That looks a lot like our countertop.love my granite! Anyway the glass tile is also very similar to ours. We put it horizontal and then we bought a sheet of black and a sheet of stainless ,because we have stainless appliances. So what we did was cut out random tiles from the backsplash and replace them with the other colors. It brought it together and made it more interesting. I can take a pic if you like.

P.S. I have bright colored accessories on my counter so it really works with the neutrals!

I cleared some things off the counter, also we might be selling the house, I wanted to se what it would look like without a bunch of stuff on it.
