What dont you like about it? Is it timber?

I think the fireplace is fine, and could use some larger artwork above.

I dont like anything on it!! Want a new one modern style but dont have the budget so i was planing in just paint it and replace the tile

You can replace it for under $800, maybe less. Or paint it white, replace tile and add art above.

I, too, think it is fine. You need to work around it, as Sustainable suggests.

Very arts and crafts style, so choose paint colors and fabrics in the genre.

not shure what you don't like about it but it might be that the wood mantel is not proportioned....too skinny legs holding up a dark simple mantel piece...you can take all that down and tile or granite (can't tell looks all black) and replace witha cast mantel piece or something...not a lot of wall to work with

Can you explain exactly what you find so ugly about it? Style? Too old-fashioned? Etc...

I'd pull off the little trim pieces at the upper corners, sand it down and paint it, it will look more classic, which would mix better with more modern decor.

it is actually a great classic look…but update it by painting it white! I am a big Benjamin Moore fan. They have a fabulous paint for wood called Advance…alkyd (oil) finish (which is super hard/durable and glass like finish) BUT has a water cleanup. Then paint the fireplace wall as an accent - using another color that ties into your decor. The accent wall will make the fireplace a focal point…make it special! and the white will make it pop! Hard to see the tile/stone but it looks black - the perfect neutral. Send pics of the completed project.:))

Sand & paint it first, if you still do not like it, rip it out & start fresh!

I think it's a beautiful fireplace. Maybe you could paint it white if you don't like it.

I think you might regret painting it later, but the tile looks a little dated. Take that out and definitely get some larger art above the mantel.

Absolutely! I hate that black tile, but I dint know what to do with the floor that is cover with black tile also! ?
