I'm a Rebel B-) so I go the 3rd option I like the design, and it adds variety to the kitchen

    Ellen's paint is very nice

Painting the cherry cabinets doesn't sound like a good idea to me the Cherry wood is beautiful as it is

I have mixed feelings about it. I ave maple cabinets in a medium tone with a ginger glaze. The wood floor is a similar color. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I find it too boring and monotonous. I am considering painting a dove white. I would love input . What do you Houzzers think?

    I love your maple cabinets.

If the cabinets are high-quality wood, I vote for stain. Painting low-grade cabinets and adding trim will make them look great.

Many of today's cabinets look like wood but they're not-They're a cheap material that doesn't hold up over time. My cabinets are about 80 years old and stained a light golden brown color. I'm always tempted to paint them just to enjoy a different look-but know I will be very annoyed when paint chips here and there due to just regular usage. The kitchen probably gets the most use of all the rooms in the house. I did change the hardware years ago for a fresh look. We live in our house 44 years. Vintagebookie

I painted mine: deglosser, primer, semigloss. They ding easily. Maybe after 30 days, mine will be bomb proud too! Love the look of mine, though. Medium gray. Attached is a pic of the upper frames and the lowers.

For me, painted cabinets are what I love. I redid my kitchen in my old house with beautiful creamy white cabinets then moved. Our new house has a lovely large kitchen, but stained walnut cabinets. Lots of people comment on how lovely they are (and they are nice..) but I keep thinking, but it's not my creamy white kitchen... sigh... I also like painted cabinets in colours! Soft, bold... I just think it makes a home more 'homey'

I'd bet it falls out that women like them painted and men like them stained. Just another fact in the "battle of the sexes!"

    LOVE IT!!!!!

Nicole- when you say they ding easily- does that mean that the paint is already getting damaged and you haven't even completed them?? That's not a glowing endorsement for wood.
That should be painting wood cabinets

Sbrustein, I completed them, but they started dinging as soon as we put the doors back on (and we were being careful). Maybe they just need more time to dry/cure. I am not sure I would use paint again.

i just finished putting in rustic floors now going to paint latex white cabinets. The oak is out dated. its definitely a man thing to not paint. I also think older generation would rather see stain not painted look.
