knobs vs. pulls in

What is the rule of thumb for knobs and pulls in a kitchen? I have both cabinets and drawers below my counter top and on my island. Wondering if I have to pull all knobs on upper cabinets and pulls below counters or if I pull pulls on drawers and knobs on cabinets regardless of location?

Use the same type of hardware if possible.

I don't know if there is a rule anymore, but I recently redid my kitchen and got some very good advice. My cabinets are dark and I was putting in stainless appliances and thought that stainless or brushed nickel pulls and knobs would be cool. Very modern. Someone said to use knobs and pulls close to my cabinet color so the eye would not be pulled all over the place and stop at every knob and pull. Best thing I ever did. I chose dark metal with just a touch of copper on the edges. You eye glides right over them but they add just a glint of metal here and there. I did knobs on the doors and pulls on the drawers upper or lower. Since they came from the same collection, they complement each other.

Hi there, I found my knobs for our new kitchen before we even had a plan. I fell in love with these round clock knobs from Anthropologie - they have all kinds of great door handles. I used mine for all the doors on the uppers and I decided on pulls for the drawers. I found these great large square shaped pulls that are almost like mirrors, at IKEA, which added a little shine to the space, while taking nothing away from my knobs. Everyone loved the clock knobs, even the trades who helped complete the kitchen, and the pulls held there own with compliments. I also put a pull in the middle of the dummy drawer above the sink cabinets so it looked finished. My ideas may not be everyone's cup of tea, but as far as knobs vs pulls, I think you have to find something you really love. You should think of it as kitchen jewellery. I like to carry on my little quirks by adding a few clocks throughout the kitchen to keep with the theme, as seen in the pictures. I hope you have fun, picking your special little touches, which will make your kitchen just the way you dreamed. I would love to see a picture when you have your special kitchen done. Best of luck

I agree on keeping the hardware as consistent as possible. Whether to go with pulls or knobs, it depends on personal preferences and style. I usually prefer pulls because of their practicality with both drawers and doors, and also - depending on model and finish of course - they can look much more contemporary than knobs. Check out Baldwin and Emtek, they have tons of different styles and finishes, however Ikea also has some good options at a much better price.

I've been in a house today with cup handles on draws and knobs on doors and pull handles on base doors. Looked amazing x
