This project was about 5 years ago, but I believe the poles are at 7 ft. and 10 ft. As a general rule, we recommend a 1 to 5 rise over run. So for every 5 ft. of horizontal travel we go up 1 ft. Let us know if we can help in any other way.

We are in Ontario, Canada, in what is apparently a high wind area - don't ask me what that means as I've not been able to quantify the label yet, but we are building a new 2 level deck and have been thinking of these shades for climate control but also as a design statement - unfortunately, their installation will be a DIY project, so we may very well be in touch. Sounds great! Keep in mind we can do custom membranes or you can purchase one of our standard sizes online or over the phone. Both types of sails are made exactly the same. Good luck!

Love this twist design! Not clear on the rise over run though. Can you please clarify? If the project in this photo has 9'X9' sails, then the horizontal run is a bit less than 10' which would put rise at a bit less than 2' wouldn't it? the rise difference you mentioned on this project is 3 feet (7 and 10' poles).

You may be correct, and we may have misspoke above, it may be only 2 ft. We do thousands of projects a year and this one was about 8 years ago, so the information may not be exact. They may be 7' and 9' poles, or the twist may be a little greater. This was a custom job, with specific instructions. However, the general rule of 1 ft. of vertical height difference for every 5 ft. of horizontal distance is one we typically live by. I hope that helps.
