Oh, you can, and there are plenty of pictures of it on Houzz. Looks lovely. But whether you should or not is a different story. I contacted a tile shop and they said no worries about etching or staining really, but that the concern would be more that it is slippery and therefore not advisable in a kids' bath in particular.

Take the honed marble - it will wear better in the long run It is a bathroom so the red wine will not be an issue. Toothpaste will get out whatever happens there.

Cork tiles come in "penny round" tiles...anti-slip and water proof. These should run in the same price range as the glass. We do not make them...but I've seen them and they are very cool - if you don't mind $5 per square foot. Cancork/iCork glue down tiles may not have the look of the penny round, but the price ($1.29 - $3.29/sf) is hard to beat for cork flooring that is 100% water proof = great for bathrooms/kids areas.

Just a throught. I believe you can find them under "mosaic" cork tiles on eBay. You can find the leads from there (sorry, I don't know the name of the manufacturers that do this...there aren't very many of them).

Here ya go Cancork. They do look pretty cool. If you don't go with cork, go with textured porcelain. :)
