Since wine and imagination go together... have a sip and tell me... What do you think of this painting over the mantle to hide the yet to be finished louver hole? I'm not there, so I can't put it there for real until next week...but can it be imagined?

Is it a seasonal location for the painting; covering the louver hole in the Summer and hung elsewhere in the winter?

I am more of a representational art fan. The landscape portion of the painting attracts me and has some nice bold impressionistic brush strokes. The abstract portion of the painting distracts me, but after examination it seems to tie in nicely to create an overall cohesive composition with nice color. Overall I like it.

Now I am going for the glass of wine.

Yo! I got something going on in here.... hahaha! I know, it's been a while since I cared about the LR, but mason friend was finally free to fiddle with it, and we had these extra pieces so.....never could find the right pieces we wanted for the vent, so this is gonna have to work.

And, here is that 12.00 Genie vase I got a while back. It will live on the mantle when we get this cleaned up. :)

Obscuring the black hole... lol. It's fugly. On the other side of the fireplace, it is bricked with atrocious blond brick and the vent hole on that side has the soldier bricks. Similar treatment here with some leftover ledger stones. I'm telling myself, it will be ok. Better than the hole. This is otherhalf and his buddy's thing. I have no control. :) At least the stones are all the same height. He's cutting them to fit. :)

It would be nice if you could find a nice arts & crafts metal grill it fill the void.

Think I'll have otherhalf put in one more bracket on the left side so that the panels go wall to wall...I think there's enough room in the adjustable rod to grow about 5 or 6 more inches. Maybe I won't need another bracket? But he's done for the day. Nasty cold he's got.

I just had to throw these on there to see. :) Me gusta! The color is perfect w/ the rug and the limestone FP. Very neutral and snazzy. Looks like I will be hemming these panels 'til kingdom come. It makes that satisfying swishing sound when opened/closed. :) SO easy!

And see how much glare they block? We're watching a movie now. :)

I remember when my neighbor had to fix something major in their house (furnace? plumbing? I can't remember). All I do remember her saying is, "Well, there go my curtains..." She had been lusting after LR drapery for a long time. Money goes where money has to go, y'know? I now know how she felt when she finally got em. :)

It's actually two sets of three windows, and not quite centered on the wall. But I think I can fix that by moving the curtain rod out a bit more on the left. Optical illusion, y'know. :)

DIL got curtains from IKEA and we hung them last night. I pinned them up but, remember the talk about sewing??? Arrrgh #@$#@ bobbin kept messing up, so we may have to hem them by hand. Luckily only three panels. I'd be buying a new machine if I had as many as you.

I'm going to pin them up, and take them to the tailor shop. They'll make fast work of it. :) Then, they will hang better too! I was able to slide the rod all the way to the wall on the left side, so the whole wall is covered now. Looks way nicer. :)

Those $#@&%*# bobbins! I wonder how much it would cost to have a seamstress hem them?

I actually broke out the sewing machine to make panel curtains for the store...go nicely with valences and partition I made to block off view of kitchen door.

I commend you DC, and Kritter, for even trying! I can do it, but not without angst...and there are ten panels to do. I don't think it'd cost me much to have it done...the alteration shop I use "puts Americans to work, locally!" LOL I'm happy to pay for that. :)

Also, so...I don't want to sew these guys all together. I think I'm going to find some sort of clip to hold the sides, especially at the tops of the panels, together. Anyone done that? Think I should use something like those little aluminum toe clips that come on the toes of socks? I want it to be removable, but hold them together so the light doesn't gap through.

I know what you mean about those light gaps....hate being in a hotel room and having to mess with the curtain to close the gap! Guess you will have to buy a buncha new socks just for the toe clips!

2. Have you accidentally fiddled with the bobbin tension set-screw?
3. Are you using a NEW needle?
4. Are you using new (not dried out/sun burned) thread?
5. Have you oiled your machine?
6. When was it in for maintenance last?
7. Practice first on similar weight scraps.
8. Post some photos...

Ryder and I have a not-so-secret longing for a gigantic, fancy, computerized quilting machine! I'm thinking we go in on it together and it can stay at the Garottage where we could all come play with it!

Bubba, Tagalong (my BF) just bought a quilting machine. It takes up her whole loft.

I was going over Bubba's check list. My machine is a cheapie, since I really am not much of a seamstress. All I've ever really made are things that require straight seams, like curtains and such. I'm pretty sure the problem has to do with the bobbin tension since every time I do a practice run the thread is bunched up on the back. I've turned every knob back and forth, bit by bit and it still is doing it.

Just got back from an overnight visit with BF, cup of coffee, then I'm dragging it out to try again. It's out the door if I can't get it to work right!!

Okay, I've run out of swear words...that machine must leave the premises!!!
