When painting it the same color as the walls it's not a concrete pillar anymore. Or you could build a cabinet around it. But it would be nice to know the whole layout of the space at hand. So do you have a floorplan you could post?

From the picture I would definitely make a feature out of it! As rinqreation says building cabinetry around it or even seating would make a great feature. The only way of hiding it successfully would be to build out stud walls around it decreasing floor space and creating awkward corners.

You can even use it for decoration
You can paint it, draw on it, cover it with mosaics or some unique stones

I would leave it and not draw more attention to the column.

As above, or for something fun, leave the concrete and add climbing wall accessories!

Columns are to be expected in tall buildings - otherwise the buildings would fall down and I think people know that and will cut you some slack.

I wrapped one in wood veneer one time. It went with some wood panels that we had installed on the opposite wall. The look was similar to what ASV has shown above, without the climbing accessories.

I would pretend it isn't there and not make a fuss about it---don't make into a feature---don't play it up… Paint the same color as everything else.

It isn't ideal, but not the end of the world, either. Some stuff we just overlook. There is a huge functional reason for it's existence. No reason to make it a decorative item.

It seems too close to the wall to use it as a support for a desk. I really love the presence of concrete in a home. allow it to be what it is, concrete. I like the use in jn3344's photo. Please learn to love it. I think you would have bought the apartment even if you had seen it walking through the model. You would just have accepted its presence and necessity.

It is hard to see but is that a kitchen back there? just crying out for a waterfall concrete island surface.

HI -- Do nothing . Raw concrete is very in so just leave it as is , with nothing on it . Your lucky it's not stuck in the middle of a room as I have seen before . This support for the building is not causing any furniture placement problems from what I can see . If you put things on it then it will show up more . This is a great floor plan so if you add some other feature using raw concrete else where , it will tie in with the pillar.

Keep it concrete or paint it white.

Do you have cats? Might become a great kitty play column with the right architectural amendments for them. You can always clad it to fit in better, or add more columns to it and make them a feature.

You can find a wooden porch column at a warehouse that handles salvaged house parts. Take one or even a pair and place one upright and the other leaning. White crackled or distressed paint on the new pieces will turn them into artworks. Add a focal sized painting to either wall. As you furnish the remaining room keep your eye open for a round ottoman covered in a dynamic fabric (cowhide, sheepskin or silk velvet).

Leave it alone. The column is, architecturally, part of the design.

There are three treatments I've seen that I really like - this is kind of an elliptical shape which is neat. It may be flat enough to hang a cool piece of art sculpture on it - and then it would depend on the sculpture what the base tone I would want on it looks like.

I like it when they are painted a deep tone like the window frames or all the light fixtures - a dark bronze paint for instance. They don't disappear but they at least provide contrast. Some people mix the dark paint with chalkboard paint for a poetry jam column. I've seen round ones like decoenthusiastes' image of a timber column wrapped with very thick gauge white nylon or natural jute sailing line all the way to the top. This kind of softens them and doesn't add much thickness. I like them raw concrete in industrial places, but my favorite by far when they relate to something in the place. Here I suppose you could hang art shelves between the wall and the column, but they would be very narrow and deep.

If this were my place, I would take a deep jewel tone of whatever my favorite accent color was - a deep cobalt blue, for instance, and paint the column with it in a glossy tone to highlight the vertical metal sculpture I would hang on its flattest face. The color backdrop would be like another accent in the place and the art would be worth drawing attention to . .. .

Wrap the column in wood and stain it in a rich color that would compliment your kitchen cabinets.

I might try to build a table or cabinet around the bottom and turn it into a home bar area.
