Recessed lighting is a great way to illuminate a space simply. I would recommend lights in the 4" diameter and keep it simple by using a light with a matte white trim and also make sure the light source is recessed into the unit not flush with ceiling this will help keep down the glare. You may want to use some lights that are adjustable and aimed at art work and mix with some lights that are downlights for general lighting. Also make sure you put the lighting on a dimmer for lighting control. Even in an English Tudor recessed lighting will look great when placed properly and controlled.
