I love the grey. You can add accessories with color that will prevent the rooms from reading as cold. I would do those floors grey in a New York second. Very chic.

I really liked grey. So I started researching on Houzz. Then before I even got a room painted I grew weary of it. It's a trend that will die before you can say mauve and aqua. Still like it for paint, and I WILL do a room, but for a wood floor? No way. Go timeless, unless you have the cash to refinish in a few years. The third option is warm and beautiful

If you want something that will last through time, I would go with three. The Espresso is too dark for your kitchen floor, it will visually shrink your area, in some cases it's too dark for cabinets. You will see every spec on it.. Grey IS trendy right now, but it is also a solid color as far as designing and decorating go, so if you plan on staying in this house for many years, then go with what you think you will love.

Hello everybody! We've talked to a lot of designers and people that do this for a living. In the end, we decided to go with what we had originally planned for this house, which was dark floors, and light walls. I love the classic look and it's easy to decorate around. Thank you for all of the opinions. It really did help us come to this conclusion!

MLex; they are white oak. We went ahead with the darkest stain.

I'm cracking up reading all these comments about gray being so trendy - I agree - been on enough house tours to see that everyone is overdoing gray right now. Having said that, I came on here looking for images of gray floors, as my beach house, built in the 50's, has its original knotty pine floors, which are a beautiful gray. I'm trying to make my new kitchen floors look similar - like reclaimed wood - sanding and staining the whole floor to blend. Your kitchen is gorgeous, by the way! Always trust your gut, regardless of trends.

I believe it was Jacobean. But my wood floor installer did the mixing. Sorry, I am not exactly sure!

It's been 2 years since this post and the black floors have really worn me out. They are too dark, and I feel as if they are sucking out all the light from my home. They are difficult to keep clean. My style is evolving to love the "farmhouse look" and because of that, I will be restaining my floors! Stay tuned!!!

Well, a lot of people are suggesting I paint the walls white since I have revere pewter, it is not a bright color, like white is. So, we Mingus be doing this before we restain all the floors. The main issue is it doesn't feel bright in here and since it's winter in Chicago, we have a lot of cloudy days. I will let all of you know what I decide. There are so many more options out there now, then there were almost 3 yrs ago. Gray stains have come a long way, so, in a way I'm glad I waited. The option that my builder gave me, above, was not what I had in mind.

Your kitchen is lovely ... well done! Keep it light & simple ... the grey is the way to go. The dark floor works works against the light walls, cabinets and finishes.

Jamie-I love revere pewter. However, in my home I am finding it kind of gloomy because we have very dark floors which we will be restaining soon to a lighter finish. My accent colors are all neutral tones.

Im in the same boot.. I just did my floors in Sept 2016.. I wanted light grey, weathered oak.... But could get the right color grey to work..On my red oak floors I had...Should have tried harder with the floor guy.

I went with Jacobean.. And its sucking the life out of me too..

Im searching for rugs and runners to brighten them up.. I have two golden retrievers, and all I see is there hair... Even when my cleaning lady just cleaned and vacuumed the floors.

I vacuum every other day now, which i never did before.

And I can't restain again, it was a big process and a lot of Money... so rugs here they come..Or I sell my house..

Go for the grey since there is a touch of the same colour on the walls and counter tops- I too love the one you dismissed but either way the grey might be the right choice.

okay....lots of discussion here and hopefully I can get an answer before the am when our floor guy starts to stain (which I have yet to decide) - yikes. our kitchen is similar to yours (white dove cabinets with grey paint and neutrals on walls) and I'm looking for something darker than we have had in the past on our floors without the red undertones (red oak floors). Did you eventually use the Jacobean/Ebony mix? I've tried the Jacobean but feel it has a green undertone. I've also tried Dark Walnut but this seems like I am still not achieving the darker look we want. Any advice now that you've lived with the darker stain for awhile?

What color did you use to get the newest rendition? I asked on Instagram but never got an answer and would so appreciate knowing what you used. Thanks!

I think you should use number two. Gray is going to go really good. The room with the grey walls will look good with number two. It is not going to clash in my opinion, because you have the white standing out with the pattern. Number one is pretty, but it will show anything that collect to it. Would love to see pictures of what you chose.

Mackey's MPI Inc. I used white oak in my bedroom and it was country white mixed with weathered oak with a white water based finish on top called "LOBA". Currently trying to fix the rest of our floors in the house but the red oak is working against us. White oak is much easier to work with! I think if you painted your walls white it would lighten your space up quite a bit. It sure would be easier than re doing the floors!

@User do you recall the brand originally used for the jacobean by bona or duraseal? trying to cover red oak floors. Ty

@Cory Connor Designs what brand of stain do you recommend for the jacobean? i have been struggling with color on our red oak floors. most colors from duraseal either dont cover and the pink comes thru or stains seem too orange or red. i just tried the dk walnut in duraseal and it seems to be very dark. i tried two bone colors- medium brown and jacobean. wondering what the jacobean brand of stain you use since i am trying to coordinate a floor with and islnd color from kraftmaid - barley color. any advice is welcome. ty
