You have a good start on this room. The rug really does not do much for the space, so I think you might consider a different one. Attaching some ideas. Also the glass coffee table you have in the photo does not work. It is too small and frankly disappears on that rug. Get a larger coffee table. The other photo you have is better but not sure how big it is. You need something larger than what you have there. What is under the painting on the mantel? Not the tall vases but some glass candlesticks? Take them away and stick with the art and the pair of tall stems. Also looks like you have too many items on the coffee table. Narrow down your accessories to 3 purposeful pieces that are not too small (also putting on the larger table).

The sofa on the right looks like it is in front of a hallway??? Can you tell us about that??

Great sofas, gold nesting tables and artwork. Not keen on the flowers flanking the painting and I do think a rectangular table will work better :-)

... and what is wrong with the rug? I love it! Can't really tell from the picture but it has some blue which I picked up in my accents.
Being a busy mom to two little kids with a full time job, I prefer silk flowers as they help soften the room as real flowers would but without the hassle. Thank you

No it doesn't. The entrance faces the hallway where the picture was taken

I like the rectangle table better. I would add floor mirrors 6 ft with wide dark frames. Ikea has them. Lean on wall on either side of firepl center. Remove those flowers on mantel. Not needed.

Put some animal pillows on sofas, to tie in rug. Good job.

It's really looking lovely! I love the mirror and animal print pillow idea. The frame on the art seems to overpower a bit and I'm not sure hanging it higher would help. Maybe switching it out at some point. I also agree the rectangular table would be a great choice. Love the sofas too, classic(: Enjoy your space.

Ideally, your coffee table should be large enough for everyone to be able to set a cup on it.

You can get away with out the lamps. A vertical accent would be nice in the corners, and if you don;t need the light, you might consider tall plant material. Faux palms or banana plants could look well here:[houzz=][houzz=][houzz=]

I love your new coffee table. It's classic and elegant.

The picture on the mantel looks to tall. It's out of scale. Or at least hang it on the wall a few inches above the mantel. Remove all the flowers. Add a few patterned toss cushions. The solids aren't really working.

Love the new table! Still not keen on the flowers flanking the painting. Think it will be better without those.
