Need Kitchen cabinet help...

We are closing on a resale in a month and I am tore as to this kitchen. We are definitely painting the walls and replacing countertops. The frig and dishwasher are fine, but we need a new range and I do not like the microwave over the range, so that will get moved to inside the pantry in lieu of a hood. I am thinking about the new Formica line in the Carrara marble look. We like the layout just fine and want to keep a white kitchen, but the thermofoil cabinets are yellowing compared to the bases. All appear to be in really good condition. Can I paint the doors? Would it be more cost effective to have the whole thing refaced? Any thoughts or suggestions are so appreciated!!

Formica 180 FX can give you a great look on a budget. We used the Calcatta Marble pattern here and we have people who go up to it and touch it and still find it hard to believe it's laminate.

Yes you can paint thermofoil with the right products. You need to clean it thoroughly and then degloss it. Use a bonding primer, and a good latex enamel top coat. Your island would be great looking in a color. Maybe a navy blue.

That counter is gorgeous...so glad I'm on the right track. I still haven't seen it in person.

Carrera would be beautiful. A backsplash in a stainless mosaic or subway would help. Then paint a dove gray. If cabinets are yellowing should be painted, maybe put a silver glaze. Change hardware to brush nickel. And replace blinds on Windows to a pleated shade In White. Lowes carries one in stock. They cut for free to fit.

Great ideas. I appreciate it. I was actually shocked though to find out that the Formica 180fx counters are over $42 sqft installed. Not what I had in mind. Wondering what other options are available. Thought I'd use Formica to be budget friendly...

Caution when considering a reface for this kitchen. Some cabinets used with a thermofoil door are not of the best quality or materials. It could be more work to reface than it would be worth. At that point we would recommend a new cabinet.

Do't confuse linear feet with square feet. Yes, 180FX is about 42 a linear foot installed with the ogee edge. But even cheap granite is about 42 a square foot. A linear foot of laminate is just over 2 square feet, and thus half the price of cheap granite. Compared to real marble, it's bo8ut 1/8th the cost. Or less, for some really premium marble. I just did a whole kitchen for a client $1500 installed. Real marble was 7K.

I painted my cabinets in my kitchen remodel last year, and have been really happy with the results. I chose a dark gray for the bases, and white for the uppers.

There are a couple risks when you paint or stain kitchen cabinets instead of getting a whole new set. Refacing is tricky if you don't know where the cabinets came from OR the exact material. We suggest looking into getting new cabinets! If it fits within your budget, it's a no brainer.

New imported cabinets? Riiiiiight. You think that everyone didn't see that 60 Minutes report? Go ahead and tell us where your cabinets re manufactured. Not assembled in a warehouse in Jersey. Manufactured.
