Our new (to us) house is a former one-room schoolhouse (see older photos). It was converted into a hunting camp in the 1920s, then renovated into a year-round residence shortly before we bought it, but it essentially retains its historic contours and we'd like to keep it that way.

This summer, we'll paint it white again, remove the shutters, dish and exterior wiring, replace the entry light and the front step, and do some basic landscaping. When we can afford it we'll replace these plain windows (see contemporary photo) with mullioned ones like it used to have. But we'd like to replace the front door soonish.

We won't add a front porch as there's one on the back, and the structure has never had one. The door is one place where we could do something a bit classier without ruining the very plain historic look. The house faces directly east, so it would be great to put in a door with more windows to let in the morning light. I think we'd like to go with wood. Suggestions?
