As much as I like "white kitchens", I understand your feeling about golden oak cabinets, nice but kind of dated. However, with older wood cabinets, perhaps worn-out a bit, I think a stain color shows better than white paint. Also, from the pictures, it seems that you have a very dark- black? countertop and light flooring, is that right? You want a color that complements both these finishes, and ties everything, including your paint on the walls.

Sure, but i would go for off-white shade, in a warm shade, with dark charcoal door knobs?
