Garden Entry Gate Ideas

We made Brown wood gates for private entry, and now need to choose a more distinctive material for the main entry to the house. Probably black wrought iron is most in keeping with the style of the house, but it seems too something to me. I think I want a different look that is not too trendy, but not too expected either. Any fun thoughts?

You could do metal with a design mimicking the plants to both sides. Or a combination wood and metal.

We had a similar situation and found a vintage wrought iron gate. But we had the pillars fit the gate. How about researching gates for the year of your home, and have an artisan make one for you that is similar? We got a bid for $1200 custom gate but found a true vintage gate for $50! Search antique garden centers or those antique malls or salvage yards and you just may luck out. ;)

Just noticed that this also solves the uncovered front door problem. You are a genius.

Amber: I love the idea, if not the costs, of copper for the gates. We actually have copper rain gutters. Thank you for your great design ideas.

    consider something like this !

Maybe a short version of something like this that is more typical of the home's style. Add an unexpected pop of color to it.

Until you decide what you want, how about painting the current brown gate in a fun color and add a large stencil of the initial of your last name, maybe put the initial in a circle or other design.

Depends on your Budget, first off looks kinda wide, it needs two gates, one with drop pin, also looks like a small landing, Iron would be best.. but you could do wood Keep in mind this sets the tone for first look into your property.. fine details stand out money well spent so If that was mine I'd save my money get a nice gate find a local Craftsmen..

Thank you everyone for your comments and ideas. Came across a sample gate at a metal workers shop and he practically gave this amazing custom gate to me.

great choice! Works well with your front. I wonder if painting it red would make it really pop...something to think on if you are the pop of color type.

I do like color pops, and may do just that. It is currently just rust colored primer, and that goes nicely with the clay tile roof. Our entry door is a retro blue, gray, green that must be working since I've seen copycats choosing the same color in the neighborhood.

imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. blue gray rust or translated to terracotta will absolutely love the addition of red. please post pictures if this is something you end up doing. The Houzz community will be better for it!

if you find a good metal worker you could also add candle holders into random slots and use them for parties and what not and it will would really wow up the entry
