Just popped in to say I love your style Monique :)

The handles look fine; I think the backsplash is a bit too close in tone to the countertops, which you want to stand out. I like Cinar Interiors suggestion of metallic tile to go with the stainless, but on the refrigerator wall only, I'd consider going "all the way" and mirroring it! It would bounce some of the outside light from the facing wall, expand the space visually, and make that counter look 2x deeper. I've done it on several kitchens, with great result. The range wall however, should be some sort of tile, metallic, light, or dark for contrast.

And one of the quickest ways to modernize this kitchen is to install LED undercabinet lighting, which also gives you energy efficient task lighting where you need it most. The can lights should be lamped with PAR lamps or LED equivalents, in a 3000K color temperature to match.

Lighting is everything.

Perhaps not for this house, but another great look with mirror is to antique it.

What about a punch of colour with a back-painted glass backsplash?
