an ikea wall shelf might work $20 aprox, I think that color might match your wall table. Other than that look at mirrors and prints

Depending on budget and how much work you'd like to put into updating the room, some of our past customer have had great success with faux stone or rock accent walls. My first thought when looking at your photos was that an accent wall with a lighting element could offer an interesting ambiance to the room when you don't want the overhead lighting on. Here are a few photos of general ideas along those lines. I hope they can help you better plan out what you'd like for your room.

I love the idea of using faux stone. I would even try it around the mantel wall, and then add some drama to the room a with a metallic paint that you can purchase from Ben Moore behind the sofa. you can then hang your mirror, which is currently over the fire place over the sofa. Good luck!

First off - Your sofa is in the wrong spot and both the sofa and chair shouldn't be against the walls.

Flip the sofa the other way around to face the wall you're concerned about and place your chair on the other side of the room, adjacent to the sofa and facing the window.

Then you can place your media cabinet and TV on that wall where the sofa is now - it will then be much easier to deal with that wall since you'll have adjacent focal points.

Hi Alyssia, I see the wall colors don't go with the gray sofas you have there. Some graphic wallpaper, contemporary rugs and tables, and the fireplace wall painted to a shade along with the sofas will pull the room together quite nicely. I would update the ceiling fan as well if budget allows.

Thinking about Fzigdon's idea of adding faux stone to the wall around the fireplace and mantel, I decided to grab a couple customer photos that better expressed that idea.

Paneling the smaller wall would be more affordable than the wall behind the sofa. So if there were budget concerns that might be a good alternative. The only tradeoff may be the extra time spent cutting the faux stone panels to sit flush with the curves of the fireplace.

If this were my room, I would not use faux anything...to me, this look will be dated in short order. I like the fireplace but would take everything down and start over with much less...there are just to many things up there and it is visually confusing. The other thing I notice is that the two sofas do not relate to one another in a way that would allow for conversation...they are way to far apart. (or is that a sofa and a chair that is in the foreground...whatever, I would make them into a conversation area) Do you have a TV in this room? I would definitely take down the lighted fan. The room does need some interest that brings the eye up....everything seems low and on the same level. I like your sofa and chair and the color....you need a rug to soften the whole look. (be sure to get one that is large enough) It is really hard to think what to do when the whole room is not shown....but these would be my ideas. I would also suggest you go on a search on the Houzz site and find several rooms that you love and dissect them to see what it is you love about them.

I agree with one of the previous posters. I dont know what the wall looks like that we can't see but I think your long couch needs to come off of that wall and on the opposite side and if you have a flat screen TV, place it on that wall. If your TV is on the other side of the room you could place some canvas pictures above your couch. Look at living rooms on this website and you should get plenty of ideas.

You poor thing. You are searching the planet for the perfect accessory over that couch. Your walls are not the problem. In fact they are gorgeously placed. The first thing I notice about this room is the non welcoming furniture placement! The couches are not in the center of this good sized room. If they are not in a 'let's sit and get to know each other while the fireplace roars in front of us' position, it won't matter what picture you hang on any wall. When you FREE the walls you open up way more opportunities for choices in decor for yourself. You then can do art, photos, shelving, bookcases, wall candles scones, framed mirrors, art panels, even stand up lamps and tall trees. As women, are we not worth choices? I hear this room and it's crying for welcoming centered placement, end tables, lighting, a comfy area rug, and a precious coffee table of your delight. Only then can the accessorizing finally begin. And when it does, you'll be too happy to shop!

the furniture placement is wrong, not to mention the accent wall color does not match the furniture. i would love to see a different accent wall that coordinates more with couch or pillows and have the sofa face fireplace. the sofa table is nice and can be used on ur problem wall with a nice television hanging above. behind the sofa some storage cubes (3) in a bright color maybe the green in ur pillows would be a nice pop of color. oh and dont forget a rug and coffe table or ottoman to ground the room. happy decorating! after looking at the pic again maybe the sofa table would look good behind the sofa due to the size.

I was thinking about changing our accent wall...possibly a dark blue or something else but I don't have the budget for a stone wall or to do wallpaper for that matter. I have been wanting to replace the decorative pillows that came with the couch because they are cheap and I don't like the fabric. I was thinking of blue or floral with blue in it. I agree, couches need placed differently. However, a gallery of photos on that wall would look great. Move the black console table to that wall. Place an arrangement of either black and white photos in similar frames or colored photos in matching frames on the wall. Put the couch and love seat in an L shape in center of room facing the fireplace. An area rug would anchor the space.

Pillows can be an assortment of textures or custom made in ur choice of fabric however the color combination is very nice together. Accent wall well any color but that one will be fine, maybe a dark gray as someone stated earlier.

btw- Number 1> nix the fixture..U need a modern one or else it will drag the whole room down.2> Make the F/P the focal wall with a conversation grouping around the F/P, would be what you're aiming to achieve. An accent chair if you can afford it is needed to break the monotony of blue. Try nestling a few chairs with a conversation table. You can collect new pieces as you go. Good Luck

Keyster said it perfectly. Bring that furniture away from the walls and you'll be amazed at how everything suddenly will work better for you. Think about creating conversation spaces. Bring in a rug to help anchor the space. Once you find the right setting for your furniture, your walls will start begging for artwork and shelving. Remember to hang artwork at the right height (not too high). Swapping out the ceiling fixture will give you a lot of bang for your buck, as will a new paint color scheme. Before you take that plunge, though, consider bringing in artwork with browns, oranges, blues and gold accents to help marry the elements you already have going on. Good luck!

Alyssia,I see that your furniture is placed to allow viewing of both the tv and the fireplace. Can the tv be moved to the wall on which the sofa currently resides? That would enable you to view the tv from the kitchen and allow you to float your sofa directly in front of the tv, honoring the fireplace as the focal point of the room and letting you use the room for its' intended purpose, watching tv. Then move the chair along the side of the sofa near where the console is currently. Move the console to either the back of the sofa or to the wall where the tv currently is. Paint the small angle of the ceiling and the current sofa wall the same color as the fireplace wall. (I can't tell from photos how it relates to kitchen dining area, but eliminating the visual angle over the fireplace at the ceiling angle is desirable.) Add a tall something on the tv and a single bigger piece over the fireplace. If you feel you need something where the console was, float a shelf there or add a narrow console with your little pictures off your mantle in a grouping there. I can't tell, are there 3 different colors on the walls in your space?

Last night I tried moving the furniture where the couch was turned around and faced the wall where the couch currently is. I also moved the chair where the console is (in front of it) and it seems like the room was a lot smaller. Also I have two bar stools that would still be behind the couch if I moved it that way and their was no walking path. Any suggestions on what I may have done wrong? I also was thinking about repainting the wall around the fireplace a dark blueish grey color but leaving the current color on the walls, do you think that would look good? We just bought this ceiling fan recently so I can't afford to purchase something different, plus I live in Texas and we need ceiling fans because of the crazy summer heats lol. Can you post some dimensions? Walls, room size, furniture? I see that the chaise portion of the sofa would be close to the hearth, but still think you should have a 3 foot walk path behind sofa. Need dimensions! Right now you have a narrow walk space from your bedroom hall and a large expanse of floor in the middle. Any change is going to seem strange at first. As for color, I like the contrast of the current wall color with your sofa color and the white trim. I do not like the three colors or the angle on the wall/ ceiling junction above the fireplace. These can be easily remedied by paint.

When a TV & fireplace are in the same room it usually works best if they are as close together as possible. With your corner fireplace, very large TV & furniture style this is not an option, IMHO. If this room is used mainly for TV watching, I suggest giving it more of a media room feeling. Buy a large patterned area carpet in muted colors including your sofa color. Paint all the walls a shade of your sofa color or another muted color from the carpet. On your sofa wall hang 2 or 3 large framed movie posters. Sports posters would work too but may be too man-cave-ish. Choose posters that have at least one bright color in common and use that color for throw cushions. Also, your sofa looks lonely. Could you put a small table between it and the fireplace and move the lamp from the console to it? or maybe a floor lamp in that spot?

Hope you don't mind another suggestion. Leave the sofa where it is, center it on the wall. Angle chair closer to the fireplace & more toward sofa, think of getting a smaller table, the one you have takes up quite a bit of space. See this photo 4 chair placement You have a nice mantel & mirror over mantel but too many small things on it as has been said. Take a look at this photo, 2 tall black candlesticks + a plant or something on the other side. Perhaps lower the mirror a tad. Think of placing the photos on the console table from now on. Your sofas look gray-blue so I think the accent wall is the perfect color already. I wouldn't buy new pillows. Someday buy a rug and choose pillows that repeat the rug color. Here's an idea for a rug & pillows, your rug should be larger. Be sure to measure for rug b/c it should not cover the hearth.
