BBQ Island IPE Siding

Is there a special thin IPE wood product that was used on the BBQ sides? Since wood expands, how is this handled? Thanks for any input. It's a beautiful project.

We used 1" boards for the sides with a small gap. Ipe is really dense so you can install a little tighter than other woods

did you use a standard board for decking or siding for this? and does the board need to be pre grooved, tongue and groove? Appreciate any tips. My landscaping contractor has not worked with Ipe wood before so I have to do lots of research to get him the info. The above picture is very much what I'd like for my backyard.

any concerns with flammability from the grill with this design? I'm considering something similar (steel or wood frame with wood cladding) but wondering if that would be an issue (i.e. heat from inside the cabinet around the grill).
