I love the lines of these couches. Typically the older couches are made of better quality wood than those made today. Also, you may be able to find some sort of brand marking to determine a value, in turn, aiding decision making process. Lastly, recycle whenever possible!

Hi Branded, these were custom made for my fathers house 50 years ago. They weigh a ton and cost $$$ then. The re-model is sleek clean lines but whenever possible staying with the mid-century feel. I love the couches too, just wish they had wide arms. Thanks!

I like the couches, so I would reupholster if it were up to me. Sure, you don't save that much, but if they were well made in the first place (which since they are still going strong after 50 years I assume they are) they will last a lot longer, probably more than a new inexpensive couch that you could purchase for the price of upholstery. Example, I have a midcentury Henredon in my great room, from the 1960s, I think, and it is still in fantastic condition, upstairs I have a comfy couch I bought about 7 years ago for about $600, the cheap couch looks terrible...I haven't had to have my Henredon reupholstered yet, but rumor has it it shouldn't cost more than that, at least in my area.

Those couches are fantastic and I would definitely reupholster them. You might be able to replace them for less money but would you get the same quality?

These appear to be well worth re-upholstering - don't forget to ask about new seat cushions and back cushions if you need them - a good workroom will guide you - beautiful pieces

I might have them converted to a 4-seater look, but keep them.
