It could be just the lighting but it looks like the current color is a little bit on the peachy side of beige.

I agree yellow would mark the entire area look welcoming. Why don't you test some colors on the walls.

I would suggest a tan or gold taken directly from the cabinets. Medium tone will make it more striking for the contemporary look then continue your accents in these three colors - black, brown and gold(tan). Nickel or aluminum ( like stainless steel can also be used for accents (candlesticks. bowl. etc.).

I agree with Barbara as well. Buying the test colors though would be your best bet though. That way you can select what sticks out and works best for you. Maybe you end up preferring the yellow, tan, or gold!

Grey, definitely Grey. Don't go too blue with the grey or green. A new light fixture would really help. A simple white drum would look nice or a brushed nickel. The brushed nickel would bring some spark and life into the room. I do like the large mirror however I am always really careful where I place a mirror. It needs to serve a purpose. Make sure that it reflects something worth looking at twice or is increasing the space or light in the room. If you make your walls grey, you then can pop the space with a great mustard color in a few dynamite accessories!!! Be careful if you use yellow on the walls, a little goes a really long way. I agree with the Grey. Chelsea grey by Benjamine grey would be nice. It would make the furniture and trim pop. A shiny chandelier would brighten it up.

Rather than pullimg a random wall color out of a hat - Start with some new draperies or an oriental rug for the floor, then pull a color from the rug or the drapery fabric for the walls...
...just don't choose yellow - yellow and brown is a dreadful color combination with horrendous connotations.

You specifically asked about paint and I stand by my grey suggestion. If you are interested in pursuing some of these other ideas, I would agree that adding an area rug, draperies and a new lighting fixture over the table would add some additional colour, texture and contemporary character to the space.

Love the idea of a simple drum shade on a satin nickel stem and would make sure that it hangs low enough. The bottom of the shade should be 60" off the floor. Your existing fixture looks as if it is hanging much higher.

love all your wood, so a color to make those walls show off all that gorgeous trim and dark furniture and contrast nicely with the knotty alder would be KIngsport gray hc-86, hues of gold,green & brown. it would look gorgeous. your mirror will be more part of the room with a richer color behind it :) good luck

I think Sandy Hook Gray HC-108 by Benjamin Moore would look great and modern. You really need to contrast those amber tones in the cabinetry and floors, not more of the same. Find a good rug for under your table and then build from there. Try www.rugstudio.com for a huge selection of affordable rugs. Also, I would consider switching out the light fixture over your table for something more updated. Also, consider switching out the vase of sticks for a live fiddle leaf fig tree, like this

I would strip the cabinets and stain them a dark brown with nickel handles then paint the walls BM Classic Grey!

Would also get rid of the blinds, maybe do shutters on the side window and drapery pannels on the patio door. Run under table for sure. Cheap option it outdoor rug at Pier 1, added benefit to cleans well with food dropping.

Type in "Black Trim" in the Houzz search bar and check out some of the pictures where people have painted their trim black...Looks really great, very bold. I agree that warm grey would be great against the maple colored cabinets. They will pop. Yellow will make them disappear.

My take on it...Yes the kitchen cabinets look too country, I'd re-stain them a driftwood grey or espresso brown, or paint them. My advice would be to paint your walls and ALL THE TRIM the same color: a rich fairly dark grey, maybe going up or down a few shades on a few walls, but def paint all the trim the same color as the walls. Doing this gives a very sleek minimal look...I think you'd like it.
