Hello and thank you for your questions! :) The Monroe is actually one of our most supportive sofas we carry since there are no separate back pillows, but instead a padded upright back! (Perfect for posture and back) The seat cushions are are 2.0 high density foam which are wrapped in dacron an extra fiber layer for comfort. As you may be able to tell, the seat is also tufted which makes the seat slightly more firm since the tufting is compressing the foam. All in all, the handmade in the USA Monroe is a great choice for someone who is not looking for something too soft and wants added support for their back. :)
