Help! Need to Update Front Exterior

Hi! We are wanting to update the exterior of our house. The front door definitely needs new paint but should we go with black or red? New lights? Should we add decorative shutters? What about the landscape? I think the bushes need a trim but how much? Thank you for your time! :-)

The bushes are eating your house! The tree is ok but may be located a bit too close to the house. Remove all the bushes to the right of the door in the photo. Replace them with varieties that will not grow so tall they hide the windows or provide a good place for burglars to hide while they break in. The lawn looks like it could benefit from being cored and overseeded. I can't tell if the tree I see in the back is actually dead or if it's just leafless because it's winter - if it is dead, have someone come and remove it before it falls and hurts someone or damages your roof. The tree on the left of the door is beautiful but might benefit from having it's branches thinned to allow more light through so you can have colorful plants beneath it in what appears to be a garden area.

I would agree that the landscaping is planted too close to the house, and is making things very dark and obscured. From the photos, the only thing that I would suggest would be maybe make the door a brighter red so that it is more visible from the shadows. I don't think that changing the lights or adding shutters will transform the house, and so that would be something that is up to you as to what you think. The photos don't do a great job of illustrating the whole street presence of the home, so if you think the comments are off track, maybe add a few more.

I can't tell from the photos provided if your street number is on the porch or located over the garage that I see on the left of the photo. It is very important to have your street numbers clearly visible from the street, because if you ever have to call 911 for a fire or other emergency it allows them to find your home faster. Some companies are even making solar powered numbers that will have lighting at night. It also helps your visitors locate your home more easily when you invite them over to enjoy the great new look with a cookout...

remove it all, if you could have someone dig out the maple and re plant it in your yard, that would be great. but either way you will basically need to start over it will be hard to cut them down enough with out them looking dead. its really the only problem.

The shrubs need to be cut back or removed. Maybe the tree could be substantially thinned out . I had my maple moved away from the house after it had been there for at least five years. Best move I ever did. But yours is much more mature. It is not cheap, but the tree is so beautiful. Just needs to be on the outside of the walkway.

As far as colors for your house. I really like the creamy color of the siding, much more than white. You could change the door to a light green.

I like your idea of painting your front door. If you could post more pictures that would be great. I would also get rid of those bushes! And plant some bushes or plants that are not so tall. Also you can plant flowers along the path. It would be a good idea to have someone experienced in landscaping to come over and inspect the health of the tree in the back and offer their input on what to do.

Here are a few more pictures. They are not the best because it is so sunny outside.
