Suggest you mock something up and try it. How much traffic will the space see?

I assume the 44" is to the counter top?

You can't go wrong with doing a mock up as ppf suggests. Consider too the possibly of 2 way traffic

That would be all right for a normal clearance situation, but the traffic in/out of the patio doors will indeed make this too tight.

You really need about 5 feet of space between the counter edge and the wall with the doors.............3 feet for circulation and 2 feet for the stools at the counter.

If your island is wide enough, maybe you can borrow some of the space by shrinking the island.

Make sure that you have enough room on the other side of the island in the cooking space.......
