Loan it to my dad...

I can't imagine owning a bike and not riding it but there was an extended period when I couldn't ride my bike. I stored it on a floor stand that held it up off of the ground by its frame. Actually, I made it the frame with a large long planter, some shelving, some 2x4s, and some cast iron shelf holders. The planter was just a wooden one meant to go outside on a patio. I added 2 shorter 2x 4 on the ends of the planter and two in the middle that would hold the bike. Then I used the same cast iron shelf holders to install the lower shelf and the bike. I padded the top with those sticky felt things people put on furniture feet to prevent scratches to the floor. I painted all the wood white and the iron shelf holder I painted black because they came painted white. Then I bought some plants, replanted them in self watering planters and inserted them into the long wooden planter. On the shelf I place some riding things: water bottle, helmet, a map, a small globe, some things I had found on rides, and some photos of places or things I had seen or wanted to see. Of course, books and small air plants. I washed and waxed my bike, polished the chrome and hung it. If you put the planter on wheels it will be easy to move around, I didn't and regretted it. I used mine in front of a sliding glass door to a balcony I didn't use. I was able to leave the drapes open and still have some privacy.

Great idea and they look like a work of art on the wall.

Until my loving husband cleans the garage I will continue to keep my bikes in the living room. Picking up a new bike today and it will be the focal point of the room for the summer!

Uhh......the garage? I would only store inside if I lived in an apartment and didn't have a choice. Then I'd wall mount it somewhere it didn't need to be looked at all day. Or I'd lock it on a porch....?

Way to go Wannadoo! When I first got back into biking I stored in the living room too. Unfortunately the only thought I had at the time was setting a plastic skelly on it, in full bikers riding uniform, with string of Christmas lights draped over everything at Halloween. ... We didn't get one Trick-or-treater that year. I still wonder why?

I'd never store my bike in my house, but especially in the bedroom! Just think of the germs on those tires...shed or garage please...and if you don't have either of those, put it in the front hallway, laundry room, back porch.

To JAC Frances. No offence, but should we all "store" our dogs in the garage or hallway too? They also bring a lot of germs.

Hooks hung from the ceiling in my garage. The hooks hook into my tires. This may not be good for the tires, but I get it checked up on and haven't had any issues with aligning my tires.

We (have to) store our bikes on a bike frame like this in our front hallway. It seemed the best solution as the two bikes take the least space and are easy accessible. If I had a garage however, I would keep my bike (and bike bits) there but perhaps on the side, on its stand, for easy access rather than the back wall. The key is to make it easy to get to otherwise you'll find the hassle too much to use for short distances.

I think having your bike handy is a great motivator to use it. Now that I live in a condo and no longer have my attached garage, I keep mine just inside my door which is also my kitchen area. It's ready to roll out whenever the mood strikes. It doesn't hurt that my wheels are kind of cute to look at!

Have you considered putting Handiwall in your garage? Its a great solution to storing and organizing many garage items that usually get lost in the clutter of everyday use. I would use Handiwall. My friends had a bike room and that is what they used.

Make it simple and don't keep a big bulky bike.....get a folding bike!

Call me old fashioned but we keep all our bikes in the garage. I purchased a floor/wall mount rack from Amazon. Was only $65.00 and holds six bikes, perfect for us as we have road bikes, mountain bikes and our son's bike. We have ours just sitting on the floor as we may decide to move the position, but the rack comes with accessories for mounting to a side wall or permanently mounting to the floor. Keeps them upright (perfect for draining if raining) and tidy and out of the way.

Incorporate a slat wall in your garage or mudroom design to not only store bikes, but sports equipment, tools, and practically anything else you have lying around!

If you have space outside, you can check out the Alpen Bike Capsule. It locks up to keep it safe wherever you store it.

We use a pulley system that hooks to the ceiling in our garage = gets the bike out of the way but also is easy to access.

I'd like to hang out bikes on the wall, they are race bmx bikes so the bars and pretty wide and I feel like they'd sit so far off the wall. We keep them inside because the bike thieves are rampant. We don't have a garage anyway.
