Are you renovating? What are you asking? If it is what type of flooring - although this might be dark, it is the only instance where I find that black matte tiling floors work with black wood.

What is your question?

my question is what type of floor and color of flooring should I use in my kitchen? it's an open floor plan. I am refacing my kitchen cabinets off white??

I have the same problem! My hardwood floors are almost black and unfortunately the hardwood was removed in the kitchen and replaced with self-stick vinyl tile. Because my house is so small (around 1000 sq ft) I thought it would be best to use a tile color that was close to the color of the hardwood. Found a very good match by DuraCeramic Reaction called "Alchemy." My kitchen cabinets are white with black granite counter tops. Do you think it's a good plan to stay in the same color family, or should I add contrast?

Personally, I stay away from dark floors as they are very difficult to keep clean. The sun will show nearly every speck of dust and smudge on a dark floor. We had a chocolatey / espresso bamboo that was very difficult to keep clean. I lean towards linoleum (the old school type, not vinyl) and hardwoods. Concrete floors are very tough on your back and feet, and are another thing I avoid inside the home.
