Hello. The wood is roasted maple (maple, left in a kiln to "roast") and the colour you see is it's natural colour after it comes out of the kiln. There is a clearcoat applied to protect the wood and bring out the natural luster, but no stain was used. It is a specialty wood, but a good cabinetmaker should have access to the material through their suppliers. BTDG
