Hi Spring! I'm guessing you're a mom to those three gorgeous children. But it sort of looks like you shopped with them in the junior department for your decor. I think you can inexpensively make this look more adult, because your basics are fine -- white sheets and curtains, a dramatic dark backdrop to your bed -- all good.

At minimum cost, and taking a cue from the touch of nature I see in a vase in the corner, I'd get some brown RIT dye at the supermarket, and mix a touch in the washing machine with your comforter, making brown your accent rather than pink. would bring up the bedroom drama. I like what you started to do to frame out the tv, and I think it could work to fill the tv wall if you bring the tv down a bit, center it, frame it as you started, then put the kids' photos in a row above it.

Find some side tables and a pair of lamps you love, and you're on your way to bedroom bliss. And since it looks like your background colors are all neutrals (the rug is brown?) you can take any direction you'd like for bedding and accent color -- this is just working with what you already have.

Love the comforter and pillow to ground the bed, but I think the wall color that the bed is on is way to dark. Like the idea of tables for some fun lamps. Might move the kids pictures to another wall and put something pictures that have pink and black to put over the bed.

I think the contrast between the light and dark walls is too great...I'd either lighten up the dark wall or warm up the white. Also, I agree that it looks a little 'junior' - change out the pink for something a bit more mature.

Love your elephant though! I think if you go with creamier colors, like the elephant, rather than stark white, it will instantly warm it up!

I love the idea you're going for. I just think somethings missing. Here's a pic I love and think you could use to get some more ideas.

I love the curtains, and I think the white adds to the brightness of the room. Plus the candles with the clear holders. Hope you like.

i think you need to bring your eye up from the bed with a head board...that comes up from the bed...and more pillows in an couple different textures. keep a pink pillow if you like that color..., i would move the picture frame to another wall so that it does not contrast so harshly,add acouple of unmatching night stands... possible 1 mirrored (or 2) or white. i would keep the white curtain and remove the black and pink sash, and the live laugh love sign.some kind of an bench or trunck at the end of the bed, a think a grouping of a couple larger vases in the corner with the one you already have.. stick to uneven groups...do what you like! your doing good..get a picture of a room you like and replicate it the best you can!s

Also, instead of changing out the whole carpet, which would be expensive, you could possibly bring in a light area rug. And I agree with hibarkley - something mirrored would be great :)

The black and pink sash on the curtains is too wimpy. I would remove it for now. Then when you've made your other changes, you can choose a new sash that is wider and longer than what you have now.

Your biggest issues here are that everything is pretty under-scaled and there is a serious lack of texture. The last person mentioned the sash being too wimpy which is right. You could use really nice custom drapery panels in a print that pulls together your color scheme. That doesn't mean a single skinny panel on each side but at least double-width panels on both sides. Bigger throw pillows at the head of the bed in a pattern mix that really gets your black, pink & white going. Be sure to select throw pillows that have different and luxurious textures. Definitely needs a headboard -- I would go white and upholstered. Change out the carpet to white. Even the frames around the children's portraits are skinny little frames. Paint the wall all black behind the pictures (lose the white squiggles too) and instead, matt and frame the art in large white frames a minimum of 3" wide. Still on the subject of your accent wall -- consider a tone-on-tone black wall paper to add another layer of texture rather than just paint. The side table and lamp are way too small. Consider having a luscious, tailored pink silk bedskirt made that would add a little bit of drama between the bed and the floor. You may have a white bedskirt down there, but it just looks like a sheet that doesn't quite reach the floor. Hope all of that helps.

If you go with dark walls I would say do it on all the walls. Then you need to bring light,shine and texture in with everything else. I would say go for a white headboard. West elm has some great options. Even Ikea has a white leather like bed with headboard attached that would work well. Then go for side tables in a mirror style like Pier one has, plus remember scale nothing tiny is going to work against that bed. You can keep the bedding if you like but add texture with pillows. You seemed to have picked a color already with the pink. But change it up by adding pink ruffle pillows in a different shade pink. Then a few pattern pillows with the pink in them. As for the curtains you have they need to go. Try to find something that plays with the patterns and colors in pillows and bedspread. Try Target lots of good options not too expensive that also are lined. On the black walls add funky white mirrors. Pops of that pink around the room will tie it all together, don't be afraid to throw some gray in there too doesn't need to be all matched just work with the theme. As for the TV center it in the wall and build a thick frame around it in your style and paint white to contrast the black paint on the wall. These are my ideas - hope it helps.

I liked the idea someone had earlier of placing the picture frame above the TV. Somehow, to me, the frame alone looks like some sort of memorial display that you'd see at a funeral home. I think a headboard is a good idea. If you're crafty, you can look online to find instructions for making your own upholstered headboard.

i feel like there is too little scale also. So i vote for a big head board. I always try to think budget friendly otherwise we would have hired a designer anyways right? So i think back to a christopher lowell home made upholstery head board. Directions online somewhere:-) too much zebra print. Stay with a white and find a zebra throw. Find two matching crystal and painted chandeliers one each side of bed. Two night stands i like mirror finish but Also for budget friendly silver painted finish on theatrical shaped side tables. I have had too many years of working with wrong carpet. Hate having too! If you can afford it by all means treat yourself or try a budget friendly snap lock type floor from cost.co or ikea or lumber liquidators and then get an area rug in that fun flokati wool from home decorators catalog in your super fun pink with a couple big pink pillows. I wish we all could just throw one at our rooms to make them perfect but it adds up too quickly just source well to save money.

There is actually one upholstery head board on a picture it is black but it blends with black wall, nobody can't see that. So idea with home made white head board is wonderful. I will start work on it over a weekend. Also idea with white frame for pics is awesome I will take care about it also over the weekend. And again you 100% right everything is under-scaled I can see that now, after so many of you pointed that, but I did not see it before. White squiggles are already gone. Thanks so much.

Don't forget to add your own personality to it too. I'd love to see a tall white tuffed head board, I think that would look cool. Since your walls are dark, the white would be a good contrast. Maybe instead of curtains, have panels like ikea sells, these just slide side to side and are easier than curtains. You can have dark panels with a lighter one in front. They have cool options, just go over to their website. A small white shag rug would look comfy too ;) If you are crafty, you could even make your own head board or just get a blank canvas, add fabric, paint, whatever. I've seen some tall canvases just leaning against a wall with this effect. It's inexpensive and brings in the color/s you want. Another canvas idea. Find a peel and stick pattern that you like, put the stickers on and then spray over the whole canvas with silver or whatever would work with the pattern or colors you have. After the paint is dry, peel off the stickers and put some white little Xmas type lights behind the canvas to show off the pattern, it's a really cool effect! and cheap and easy to do. This could be used as a head board, or just in your room for added interest. Whatever you do have fun with it! :)

I think you should forgo the whole zebra/black thing as it's a little juvenile. The black wall is a bit much. Maybe go for dark bedding with zebra accents a dark accent wall but not black. And you should build a conduit into the wall so your tv cords aren't visible. Maybe some dramatic artowork and a cute shiny black chandelier to keep with the dark and dramatic theme. The furniture is fine, the kids on the wall is great and I love the white elephant in the room!

To begin: Place the elephant on the bureau. I do not think the zebra spread is juvenile. This photo shows a black wall, black headboard just as you have. There is not one way to do things. PHOTOS over bed are nice, but I'd paint the white part fuschia to repeat the pillows & tie in with the color scheme. I'd just have white curtains, nothing else on the curtains. Maybe the black and fuschia curtain-drape-ties could be hung over the bed toward the ceiling as a crown-drape for over bed & photos of kids. Two painted black tables, larger lamps as in link above. Possibly paint the squiggles fuschia and have them more as a decorative statement around the photos. Place "live, laugh, love" over curtains. Fix TV area.

I like the black accent wall. I would get black wall stickers and create a subtle tone on tone effect.

I would take down the photos over the bed and get a large headboard. Maybe one that's white/beige tufted. Or black, which would look dramatic against the black wall. (The photo is from West Elm.)

I would take out the hot pink and use a more sophisticated dark pink or red.

I think you need to paint the walls beige to temper the room and warm it up.

Here are pics what I did so far. I still don't have TV wall and I need work on pillows. Each pillow is different color now just to see how it looks. I will go with darker- burgundy or maybe another color. That I don't know yet. My carpet is burgundy so I think pillow can be same color. If I do not need to change the carpet right now I will be happy. Maybe I should exchange black pillow covers for grey? Thank you all of you.

I like that now we can see the headboard. How did you make it? Looks good :) I like the candles, gives it a nice touch and is in a better scale to your nightstand than the lamp was.The drapes look better too. If you want to change your pillows to grey, just don't let them blend in with your headboard and that you have that color somewhere else in the room too. I like the black cause your bedspread is black and it's a contrast to your headboard. Maybe a small white shag rug or sheapskin by your bed to bring in more of the white that is on your bed, would be comfy too. I was just looking again and I think you need something taller in the corner, everything is the same size/scale; pillows, candles... try bringing in some height or some greenery. Yes, you right about white shag by the bed I will do it. Yes, also vase in corner it too small - still, how to fix it? Should I use a bigger vase or put it on a stand? I think just a really tall vase or tall branches. Maybe something like tall bamboo.The vase is too small for that space. Tall bamboo would look good, it kind of goes along with the print and the elephant. Big vases are expensive unless you already have one that would go with the space, a tall black, black/white, black/burgandy. I don't know if you have a World Market where you live but they have bamboo, it comes in a tall stalk, about five or so of them. I think it would look good against the white part of your wall. The silver doesn't really go with anything in the room. Glad you had fun making the headboard. I Hope I helped.

Using the images of your bedroom in its original state we created this super-glam alter ego!

THE STEPS...
Walls:
•Paint your focal point wall a neutral shade of grey.
•Choose a color a few shades either lighter or darker (whichever you prefer) with which to paint your stencil. Make sure that you choose a stencil that is the appropriate size for your wall. Something too big could be overwhelming in a small space and something too small could be too busy.

Headboard:
•A great way to add instant sophistication to a bedroom is to add a statement-making headboard. An upholstered headboard is both eye-catching and cozy.

Nightstands:
•Nightstands help to anchor a bed; choose pieces that are visually heavy in a style and color that will not compete with the bed/bedding.

Lighting:
•Lamps for the nightstands should accentuate the bed, but not to compete with it.
•Choosing a visually heavy nightstand means that you'll want to do the opposite when choosing lamps (otherwise it would all be too heavy; making a room come together properly is all about balance).
•To keep the balance in this space, try to find lamps that are tall, skinny, sleek, and simple.

Bedding:
•Think of your bedding as a canvas for your bed accessories (pillows, comforters, throws). Think Subtle, less is more.
•Choose something that does not compete with your focal wall; if your stencil is more ornate, try a more geometric pattern on your bedding.
•Try using a monochromatic palette, like various shades of grey.

Bed Accessories:
•If the bedding is your canvas, pillows are your paint. Think pillows = decadence. More is more! Choose an assortment of pillows all in the same color family, but in different fabrics and textures. This will add visual interest and the look of luxury.
•To add a little extra "plush" to your space don't forget a throw and a fluffy comforter folded at the end of your bed!

Window Treatments:
•Curtains can help make a cold room instantly feel more cozy. Since the visual focus of the room is on the focal point wall, you want to make sure to choose something understated for the curtains.
•Try something monochromatic in a white with a neutral pattern – nothing too ornate. The window treatments will help balance in the space.
