It looks beautiful but I'm wondering where the food prep goes on with all those cabinets that rest on the counter.

Why did you choose to put cabinets right on top of counters. Looks like you lose counter space that way?

    Very nice!

I spent a lot of time on houzz web site getting ideas for my kitchen. Loved the idea of cabinets sitting on counter. I needed this space for my fine china and glassware. As far as prep space, we actually have ample space. The area on the back wall has about 4 feet of space, it is directly across from the stove and refrigerator is quite close. Also have the space next to the range on both sides.
Just a foot note, the old kitchen had 7 ft ceiling and there was a step down from living room to dining/kitchen area, brought the floor level with living room and put in hardwood floors. Just finished last week. The more time I spend in this space the more comfortable I feel in the space.

I like the 'before' kitchen better. Just kidding, had to be the one person that said that! This is AMAZING! Congrats.

"Wish I had planned a little better and kept one cabinet by sink short."

    We all "live and learn".

Your kitchen looks fabulous. Did you manage to stick to budget? I agree with the other comments - it does look like a completely different house.

Found old newspapers from 1951 that we're being used as insulation in the walls. 2 exterior door openings when we took down all drywall and a folgers coffee can used as can light, thought that was pretty funny.
Had first dinner party last night got 8, space worked really well. 3 people in kitchen area doing prep and no one had a problem with not enough space to work. I really do love my new kitchen

I prefer the old layout better. Had a contemporary structural feel. But, the old wood look had to go.

Your second picture shows how to handle a tall ceiling with finese. Your ceiling vent and two large lighting fixtures totally take the eye away from the fact that you have such high ceilings and the cabinets do not go to the ceiling.

There are many examples on Houzz where people are in need of help to rectify problems with high ceilings.

    Bravo.

Your kitchen looks great. What did you do structurally with the ceiling? Structural ridge? Raised collar ties? I don't see any lateral bracing.
