If you looking for something permanent i would use a steel fence that you design to work with your house and style, if you want a temporay fix til you children get older then there are may options out there for screened fence or even very light grade metal fence, these temporary fences just bolt into the ground or concrete around a pool and can be removed in time, if you go with a steel fencing it would installed in concrete and not removable,

Most people prefers removable mesh fences. Mesh fences are specially made for pools keeping child safety in mind. They are more attractive than steel or metal fences. Guardian Pool Fences are approved by many local building codes because with it's locking sleeve it can be made "permanent". You can only remove the fence with the use of tools but still have the option to remove it. The design is non climbable, comes with a self closing and self locking gate. It is really safe!
