I would turn those wood beams into a coffered ceiling like this! Then I would either stain it darker or paint it all out white. I like white trim rather than wood personally but I think either would look nice.

I really like the beams done in white and I would paint the paneling in white as well. You have a great fireplace it is a really nice focal point in your new family room. Personally I don't love the media cabinets they left for you, I feel they take away from the fireplace, ceiling and the great view to the patio from the french doors you have, they give the room a somewhat dated feeling. Such a cozy space!

I would paint it out all white, and yes, coffered ceiling if budget permits. I would also consider painting out the brick fireplace, maybe a nice sand color with a white mantel and outline the opening in black or charcoal like in this pic . Once you have all the white painted, you could paint the walls a nice contrasting color, like a medium gray. But it all comes down to personal taste , of course. You have an amazing home, enjoy!
