From the photo, the overall appearance is very bland. It needs some "punch". Unfortunately the photo may be a bit misleading as it was taken on a sunny day with the sun behind the house. However not all is lost. I suggest you pick out a deeper tone from the variegated brick colour to paint the ironwork. But don't go to black. Start with that - it may not need anything more. It should make the entrance more of a focal point.

Thank you Jeff. I will try to post another picture. Now that I look at it closely, you are correct. I am looking to paint the brick in its entirety as it is a peachy orange brick and the trim color is peach as well.

Are there restrictions on what you can use/do?

The trim now is blending in with the brick--use a contrast color to catch the eye...paint the ironwork a light or darker shade on that color card...
What colors are used inside? Would you want a version of one outside? Many people do that as a transition device...

Without a closeup that shows the actual colors of the brick it is difficult to suggest a specific color to use--
if the brick has more pink vs brown for example-- that would make a difference in choosing new color.

It looks like a shrub is missing on the far right. If it was my place I'd replace the taller shrubs with something lighter, such as an espaliered vine with seasonal color and a different shade of green leaves than the hedge. Maintenance shouldn't be any more than the existing shrubs.
I vote for leaving the iron and brick as they are and adding color in the trim around the windows and the door. Look around the neighborhood. Is everyone using greens and browns, then pick something a little different.
Do you like vibrant colors? Then go with an adobe/southwest orangish-red.
Is the home close to a large body of water? Then a blue trim would be appropriate.

Attached is a pic I have tried to zoom in to show some detail. We want to paint the outside of the home and aren't really restricted on colors.

The inside of the home is being updated with fresh grey walls and has more of a Candice Olson inspired look.

Here is a pic a found but cannot determine the colors....it appears to be some sort of stone and I think grey trim work. Would love to give this home a similar transformation.

You realize if you paint the brick you will always need to maintain this and repaint down the road. That being said, I attached a photo of a painted traditional exterior home similar to yours that used light on the bricks and charcoal grey on the accents.


I have heard mention of white washed brick, but have no experience with this. Second photo of that paint technique.

Leave the brick and paint all the iron work black.
