Presuming you will eventually add more furniture and accessories, I don't think you need to worry too much about the white on your chair matching your wall storage.

I think if you like modern, lacquer finish is the way to go for sure.

Thanks for responding to my...delima. Since my place is so small, I think the only other furniture I'll be getting is an end table, night stand or shelf and maybe change my bed to a day bed?...maybe a clear console table...not too sure yet, I just know I need storage for work and crafts. I'm just not sure how I want it to be.

Yeah, space is definitely limited. Don't forget you can do fun rugs and smaller accessories as well to really make it your own!

Those are good ideas, but I live in a rental studio so I can't paint. I was wondering if all or some shades would be a good idea or try and keep them the same. I've checked out those web sites, along with ikea too. Just not sure how to store everything. This site has really given me some good ideas. Thanks Charmean!

Designing rooms with many shades of white is a passion of mine. The shades should not match but have the same base color, as in all the whites should have a yellow, grey, green base, etc base color. If the base is all the same they will blend. The trick to all white rooms is to create interest through the use of many different textures (silk, linens, faux fur, velvet, etc) and finishes ( metals, wood, shiny, rough, etc. For all white rooms for inspiration, see my profile photos

How do you tell if they are the same base shade? I liked your pics and comment, thanks Shirley! I agree on the use of texture, it doesn't matter the color right? As long as it goes together and have at least one or two accent colors like in pillows, accessories? As far as texture, I have a small tall wood table in the entry. My bar stools have a silver base with chocolate brown smooth seats, and I have a chocolate brown mirror along with white chair and ottoman. I have a chocolate soft throw on my bed. I'm just worried to use too much of one color, chocolate and white. (I do have a grey/blue in window sheers and sheets. I try to keep that color consastant through out. my place.) Thoughts?

If you do not trust your instincts about the base color, go to a paint store and pick up some color sheets of white paint. They will have about 6 shades of white from dark to lightest. When you look at the darkest shade on the sheet the base color will be obvious. Find the sheet you like best and then use that to match up the other whites that you use.

Shirley that is a beautiful room, thanks for sharing your picture. I wanted to post a picture of a room I did last summer. This room was about 12' x12", very small. I used a small desk as a nightstand to provide a writing surface and small storage with drawers. I opted for art over this desk, but you can certainly add shelves instead. The idea was to save space so the desk doubles as a nightstand as well as a writing surface. Shirley's advice about the base color is a great recommendation. Also, agreed about adding texture. Jody-I'm one of the oddballs that loves small places. I'm sure we'd all love to see a couple of photos, if you can. I bet you'd get even more suggestions!!

Your color scheme sounds perfect to me with the contrast you have with the whites and brown, then a touch of the blue. I you add any other pieces, such as the night stand, look for something w/ drawers for storage or shelves that you could add baskets to store your supplies. Ottomans offer extra storage with lift up tops.

Ikea is one of the best places for ideas for double duty everything or creative furniture
arranging to fit everything in.

I love trying to find dual purpose furniture, it's fun :) I do have a vertical half wall I'm not sure how to decorate around it. It seperates the kitchen from the 'bedroom'. I found the acrylic bubble lamp I wanted but they are out of stock right now.

Keep some spaces empty, you don't have to decorate all walls or half walls or have lamps on every horizontal surface. The empty spaces will help the rest of your items look better. I think you might be finished, now. Don't buy any more stuff, it's time to start living in and enjoying your digs. If you decide to keep your bed, there are under bed storage boxes for crafts etc. Some day beds have lower pull out drawers.

I just need to get something for storage. Either open shelves or closed storage, also a lamp or two and maybe an acrylic side table, vases then done! I think;)

Closed storage will look neater than open shelves. Have you seen these space ideas for small apartments? Some will duplicate photos.
