It's a very specific look. What is the style of the house? And where is it located? Is it something that you're going to get tired of in time and wish you had just put out some colorful pots? I think I would be inclined to do the subway tile and some of the floral Mexican tiles in the alcove and just the subway itself for the backsplash.

I am in Florida too, so I know what you have. I think you are on the right track. I would not put the painted tiles on the backsplash, just the green ones. After you figure out a tile layout for your alcove and have it done, I would add shelves, preferably in the same black granite as your counter. Be sure to plan the tile layout and placement of the shelves together. You don't want the shelves to be placed in front of any of the square painted tiles for example.
