what do you want the living room to be? conversation grouping, library, ??

Thank you!! I would like it to be conversation grouping. Since the room isn't very wide, I was thinking about using an apartment size sofa with 1 or 2 chairs.

If you still like the DR furniture then don't replace it. Add a flat weave area rug to ground the space and new artwork on the window wall - what you have is too small (and too high I'm afraid). The red silk curtains are lovely but the blind is bringing the whole window down. Can you replace them (in DR and LR) with something else? A fabric roman shade for example. When you do your LR don't forget another flat weave are rug to ground this space too. Good luck from Montreal!

Thank you Addison Design!! I'm assuming the chair covers would be light in color. I also want to add a "real" buffet. I currently have a small glass chest. Would you recommend getting a larger glass chest or go with a cherry wood buffet. Thanks again!! Another question, keep the paint color the same??

I would recommend that the chair covers be a pattern that incorporates colors from your drapery panels and other furnishings. The background color could be light. You might want to wait on selecting the fabric until you make some purchases for the living room that way you can tie the two rooms together. As for the buffet area, you could go larger or, if you have extra dining chairs, put one on either side to fill the empty space. Either way, stick with the mirrored finish. Mixing things up adds interest. I also really like the 3D detail on the walls. I think it would be fun to paint each level a slightly different shade of the same color, just enough difference to notice but not anymore than that. Again, wait until you've selected the rest of your furnishings. Paint colors should always be the last thing you select. Good luck.

If you could post more pictures, we could help you better. By the way, painting the steps in the wall different shades would be fabulous. Look on eBay for buffets, modify your search to "within 20 miles" on the left side. Then "save search" and you'll get notices when new items are listed. Great finds. Also for your living room.

Those two pictures on each side of the window need to be hung somewhere together one above the other. In a smaller space.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions!! Now I have a better idea on what I want to do with the living and dining room space. First order of business... Purchase a sofa. I will keep you posted!!
