Remove popcorn ceilings or new wood flooring?

Moving into my first house in a couple of weeks. The house doesn't need much done to it. The only things I would like to do are remove the popcorn ceilings (1300 ft worth) and replace flooring in the main family room.

It looks like I will have budget for one of the two out of the gate. Any recommendations in which to tackle first?

One not in the popcorn ceilings is the house had some very high ceilings meaning they will need to be professionally removed.

I would opt for removing the popcorn ceilings. They date the house and the decor and are unattractive. Afterwards a fresh coat of paint on ceiling and walls will give it an entirely different look. You can deal with new flooring as your budget permits and you won't have to worry about protecting the new flooring from the popcorn ceiling removal.

Most people spend more time walking on the floors than looking up at the ceiling.

Dyetecture, studies have shown that generally as most people enter a room their eyes are first drawn to the floor surface. However, unless Kenton's floors are trashed it is hard to escape a popcorn ceiling.

I don't seem to mind popcorn ceilings nearly as much as a lot of people do. I agree with Dytecture and that everyone sees, notices and lives on the floor....not the ceiling. However I think removing the popcorn would be a much dirtier job and would be more of a pain once you are living in the house and have furniture (and a new floor) to protect.
