Need help with my great room

I'm in desperate need of help with my
Den/ great room. I recently moved into my house and carpeted and painted. The carpet in this room I love....but the paint and ceiling is just dark and drab and depressing! I want to brighten up the room and I thought abt doing a stone wall behind the tv. Not sure what to do with ceiling and need new couch....pls help!!!
