Once you accessorize and put your curtains up and give yourself time to adjust. You will love it.

Pick out some accessories in a color you love for your kitchen and place those accessories around the room. Examples, canisters, a tray leaning against the back splash. Some pics with the colors in it and your eye will move to each piece instead of focusing on the black splash. Make it work for you. Give yourself some time.

Did you stop from time to time and look at how it was looking? I am sorry but at 20 a sq ft for material I hope you installed it yourself. It is a great job.

Didn't install myself. I loved it as it was going up and still love it on its own, just think it's all competing with eachother. I will live with it now for a bit, I guess. The reassurance is so lovely. Thank you.

njmomma - yes! That's beautiful. It will definitely help to have the place done and decorated.

Let it stay for a few days. Your eyes have to adjust to the change. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Even if you use white or silver canisters, it will break it up for you.

It's true about adjusting to it - we have actually had the kitchen and counter in for a few months with no backsplash, so I'm not used to seeing anything on the wall. Thanks!

Gray is the rage....personally I can't get enough of it....I might choose accessories in a darker gray to complement the darker gray streaks in the granite. That would emphasize the countertop and make the splash background.

Individually, they are both beautiful but I hate to be the one to agree that they do seem a little busy together. I do think its mostly because you're staring at the edge where they meet though. Take Njmommas advice and add some color with accessories along the back of the counter and I think it will make all the difference. Sorry that you didn't
realize u felt this way until past the point of no return after spending so much!

hate to have to say, I agree they are busy together. The colors match, but it's dizzying.

I love granite, but am not liking the styles people are doing in backsplashes with granite these days. They are always fighting each other. I say pick one or the other. Plain counter and cool backsplash, or cool counter and plain backsplash. Otherwise, you get a mishmash.....

We see posts like this often on Houzz. People fall in love with popular trends and don't give enough consideration to how the various pieces (backsplash, counter, floor, cabinets) will look all together in large areas. You have some good advice above about how to live with your mistake.

I agree, it's a bit busy. A beautiful colored glass subway tile, like gray glass or even blue ir sea green. U want the granite to be the main focal piint

I agree with Debbie g. It's the intersection of the splash and counter that brings attention to the busyness. I held my finger over that intersection in your picture, and it seemed much easier on the eye. I would try to camouflage that meeting point as much as possible. Notice the low tray of lemons in njmommas pic just as an example.

The surfaces are very different backsplash looks like a matte finish while the granite has a sheen. Do you think the grout film has been washed off the backsplash. Would check that to see if it helps.
