Am i being too picky with my Contractor??!

I found 'professionals' via an architect that was working on a large condo development in the area. A father and son team showed up to paint one family room a sold colour, add stone tile around my fireplace, add wallpaper to an accent wall in the powder room and paint the other 3 walls, and paint my master ensuite with horizontal stripes. Please take a look at the pics and give me your honest opinion about the work. There's tons of examples of what I think is very poor workmanship. Honestly, if I had the time and tools, I could have done as good of a job myself - and I'm an accountant! Anyway, I could only upload 4 pics but there's tons of examples of paint on trim, paint on my custom cabinets, stone tiles do not have a straight edge, bubbles and pops in paint, very poor paint cutting, paint bleeding onto other coloured walls, etc. However, I've been told that I'm being too picky. I'll let the pictures do the talking but I need your opinions please!

Yikes! There is nothing picky about expecting a job you are paying for to be done right. This does not look like the work of professionals, or even talented amateurs! Sorry!

My husband is a general contractor, he would not accept this from any of his sub contractors. Demand he corrects this.

Agreeing with all of the above. I seen to many paint jobs in person (not in photos) with striped walls. They were perfect ! Don't accept what they did

The problem is that I have to spend double now to fix these mistakes, and they still haven't finished the stone surround around the fireplace. Because it's work in progress and my wife just wants the job completed so we can put furniture back and clean up the place, she's telling me to accept this work. Don't know what to do!

If you choose to accept it I would not pay them the full amount. Find out what it would cost to have it done properly and tell them that will be deducted from the money you owe them. That may get them to fix the job. Are they licensed and insured?

That's the unfortunate part. We already paid 50%. Not to mention all the material costs. So essentially we'd have to pay a premium to get someone to fix this mess, and rebuy all the materials (I.e. Paint and wallpaper).

Who told you that you were being picky? What is the response from the contractor?? Does he think that is acceptable work? Again are they licensed? Do not pay the remainder of the bill, let him take you to court and show the judge. I don't think they will go that far with the shoddy work as your evidence

shouvik5, I apologize from all of the professionals in our industry for these clowns. Do not pay any more to have incompetent people further damage your home and find someone capable to do and/or redo the work. Some of your photographs clearly indicate your "contractors" have no idea what a correctly done job looks like. Fire them and move on.

No, you are not being to picky. Do you have a contract? That would give you a chance to have it corrected and they have to pay for it.

I would not be happy with the work, but my gut feeling is you are probably getting what you paid for. These are handymen, not professional contractors and there is a huge difference. No true professional does crossover work. A professional tilesetter does not do painting or carpentry. A professional carpenter does not do drywall and painting. No one can do it all and do it well - there is just no way to keep up with a trade and all the best practices unless you specialize. As far as painting stripes, our standard, professional painter would not do this. They would do the base coat and then a faux painter would be called in to complete the work. Research the people you intend to hire thoroughly before commiting.

not all contractors are created equal yes some view clients as paychecks but highly qualified contractors don't yes we do like to get paid but we also have honor in what we do. even if a contractor comes highly recommended I would still do my own homework and research ask to look at there work if they are busy they will have work to show you while it's being done .
