I would wait until you can change out the granite...that is what is stopping you from giving the kitchen a cool tone..it is way to warm.....only earthy warm toned backsplash will work with the warm gold granite..I would not waste the time and money on a new backsplash. Sorry :(

be careful Revere Pewter can sometimes appear like a soft silver/blue rather than light gray.

I do prefer subway tile over stone tile but..... I see where you are going and I do like the tile, I even like they gray one with it even though the main background color of your granite is warmer. I see grey/dark specks in it, and I think it can work. You can mix warm and cool neutrals together and be fine, I think. Out of the new stone tiles you have shown, I like the original gray ones the best and I think it looks nice with your possible neutral paint color you have on the wall. Your dark flecks in the granite justify the gray stone tile.

I think you should paint the walls white! Then the only colors will be the cabinets and the counters and it will be great. The revere pewter is way too cool for the cherry and the granite.

So I was able to remove the wooden piece above the window without doing any damage, wahoo! Here is the latest tile choice. It again looks different in ever picture, but when it was just daylight it was my favorite. The last picture is the original tile I asked about, but I just accidentally left it in the photo showing the removed window casing.

I would keep the subway tile, paint the walls a warm white and the island a dark blue

We actually have very similar granite..I have white cabinets but if you think you will being painting them white in the future you might want to consider a gray glass subway tile...this is how it would look..this is my kitchen

I'm seeing grey blue in the new tile and warm colors in your countertop. It sort of looks busy together to me. I think your existing tile looks better.

If you are planning on using the stone be sure to run it horizontally, it will look odd vertically. The backsplash material looks good with the countertops you already have.

HomEInteriors, yes that granite you have is very close to mine. I'm not sure why I can't get a true picture of the color. It has a lot of grayish green tones in it, which really aren't reflected in the picture. My MIL is coming by Sunday she will be able to have the color coordinating skills I don't he. I do hear what everyone is saying though. It seems like everyone wants me to keep the stark white subway! I'm going to keep trying to find the right fit, but I think the idea of keeping the natural cherry wood is growing on me. I think I would change the floor before I changed the cabinet color. There are just so many color tones fighting in this kitchen...it seemed like wall paint and backsplash could bring it all together.

Would you ever consider just changing the counters? I think that is where you will get the most bang for your buck..that way you can keep your beautiful cabinets and flooring..they both are really a much bigger project...no painting of cabinets..no changing of floors and you can paint walls any color you want!

all white crisp counter and new simple white backsplash you can do something very enexpensive in all white would look gorgeous with your cabinets:) something to think about...

I could look into that, but I really do like the counters. The floors aren't my favorite. And neither is the island color. I think it maybe BM white dove? But it's really looking like it has undertones of yellow. Here are updated pictures. The backsplash and bead board in the wall were both removed today. Don't I d my 1 year old getting into mischief!

Sorry to say not a fan of the stone, plus stone is porous and if say spaghetti sauce goes flying you are not going to be able to clean it off. To me the grey is just not quite the right color.

So if you like the counters, you need to abandon the "cooling" theme of your renovation and embrace the brown! Revere pewter is very very cool. You need a nice neutral white or even beige. Nothing blue or gray is going to work for paint. At that point I would keep the subway as it seems more modern to me, but if you replace it with a warmer natural that is fine too. I also definitely think the subway will look nicer with white cabinets if you do decide to do that.

Poolhabit, Okay maybe I should look into keeping the kitchen paint white. The sight lines are very open in my house even though the rooms are separate. A color consultation with a local interior design firm lead me to choose Revere Pewter. The color is being carried through all my halls and foyer as one continuous color. I will look over the other choices as that room hasn't been painted yet. Once it has been primer that will give me a better sense of how white walls will look. My first floor colors are as follows: living room- whiskers by BM/ dining- la Paloma gray by BM / family room-stonington gray

As a point of reference, this is my last kitchen in my prior house. These counters had ZERO white/grays. Which is why I chose the backsplash you can see pictured. I don't know why my pictures of my current kitchen keep coming up more gold beige. Maybe the cabinets and lighting combined pull up those color tones more than what I actually see in person. I don't what my new kitchen to end up looking like this.

The photo of your old house really helps. So don't do a beige!! I wouldn't want that either. Of the rooms and colors you listed, what comes right up to the kitchen?

These are the photos from the MLS listing when we purchased the home. You can get an idea of how the sight lines are. One photo angle is standing in the front entry where you can see the dining room and kitchen. The other is from the back door in the kitchen. So dining will be la Paloma gray and the entry/hall/kitchen will all be Revere Pewter.

Doesn't the granite look so much lighter in those pictures?!? It's bizarre. I can't wait to get the electrician in to take care of that track halogen lighting and eye recesses lights.

Exactly why you should get new counters it will always be a warm tone..you can't make the kitchen a gray or cool tone with counters that are warm...the only way is to paint cabinets white and do a solid gray backsplash subway tile...to over compensate for the warm tone in the granite.

Be careful with stonington gray it can look soft blue..so can Revere Pewter..you need a gray that has a brown or green undertone.

I painted the guest room stonington gray and it looks very light gray. I painted the master Lazy Gray...that is way bluer than what I had hoped for, but I don't mind it for a bedroom. The stonington gray room will have the Lounge ii by C&B in steel, which looks like it picks up the right colors. That will be a whole different post in about a week or so ;)

Yes, HomeInteriors. In one photo I had the wall painted with the sample of revere pewter. But the backsplash in this image is no longer a contender.

I think it looks okay so far. What do you think? Originally, I started sampling with Agreeable Gray by SW but I didn't like that.

Do you have any white in your granite? If so you could do a basket weave or ogee white tile backsplash and warm gray walls instead..keep cherry cabinets. These styles will look so different than the white subway..these choices will give you a much more contemporary/modern feel..great look for a young family.

I would look at Mindful Gray or Dorian Gray

Homeinterior, I really appreciate all your advice. Mindful gray was one of the color choices on the list, but I never did try it. Yes, the counters do have a fair amount of white. I also saw a tile that I loved that was a herringbone pattern while I was tile shopping. I was worried it would be to busy. Maybe I will try the paint and pick up a square foot of the tile to see how it looks in the space. Thanks for the additional suggestions.

You know I love herringbone! Hard to see but my island is painted Dorian Gray works really well with our granite very similar to yours.

Yes, I love that whole look! Okay well I now have another whole week before tile gets installed so I have some leeway to go out shopping again.

Okay here the update: my MIL came today and now that the backsplash is ripped out and the bead board is gone she is seeing the kitchen with new eyes. She told me I NEED to paint the cabinets white to make it flow with the rest of the house. I was hesitant because there are other projects to be done and furniture to be bought, but then she told me she would like it to be our housewarming gift. Wahoooooo. Homeinteriors, I like the idea of doing the island Dorian Gray. What color whites would your recommend to look at for the cabinets that would coordinate?. Do you think BM snowfall or Alabaster white would work? BM Doge white was on the door and bead board and it looked to yellow to me. I am going to hold on to the backsplash I already bought but wait to have it installed to make sure it coordinates.

Kelly, please make sure your painter really does a pro job of preparing the cabinets for paint. Your cabinets look like they have a pretty nice finish on them and it's hard to get that to take paint. Ask me how I know....... I totally ruined my kitchen by painting my cabinets. The lacquer flecks off at the tiniest ding, it flakes off into my dishes. It;s a sad, sad story. It;s why we are finally ripping out and starting over. Now we used lacquer because that's what paint guys recommend and I had no idea. I have since been told that that's a terrible thing to use..... Your cabinets will need to be sanded down to get a nice paint job to adhere properly. Don't let them just "wipe them down" with TSP or something. I know you wanted white, but I beg you to soul search before you do it. You won;t have contrast with your floors much nor with your countertops much. I love white cabinets as much as the next lady but think about what I've said, just want to save you some trouble or make sure you get the best refinish job there ever was! : )

Also, on all the trim in my house that was stained, on that we did use paint not lacquer, it was not sanded, and it's all chipped so badly I'm ashamed. It's so sad.

Your granite and floors will be gorgeous with white cabinet..it will totally transform it!!

Of course have them done professionally!! It usually cost around $35-40 per door and drawer..this should give you a good idea on cost done by a professional.

About the painter...
You need to find someone that only does kitchen cabinets. Not a regular painter.
They will take all the doors to their shop and spray paint them there. Then they will come back to your place to spray paint the faces.
You can ask to see samples.
Ps: don't forget to think about your handles.
If you are switching to smaller they can fill the whole before painting everything.

So the cabinets are getting painted next week. We are going with Shoji White, it is the perfect soft white. Thanks HomeInteriors! I did try SW alabaster white but it was too stark. Shoji is still lighter than my current island color without the yellow, so I love it! We are going to paint the cabinets and island all the same color. Then I will be back on the backsplash hunt ;). Shoji white is the larger swatch in all the pictures. Again the lighting is still a work in progress!

Should I paint all the trim in the room Sw Shoji White also? The walls will be revere pewter.

Well the painter painted the kitchen before I could say anything, but it's not a big deal. Meanwhile cabinets have started being primed and I already am liking what I see!

Looks wonderful, Kelly - like a totally different kitchen. Normally I'm not a proponent of painting good quality cherry, but in your case, with your existing countertop and floor and layout, it looks much better with the white cabinets - all of a piece. Planned - not thrown together. And just in time for the holidays! :D
