To me it looks like a bad seam..If the rest of the seam looks fine, then they shouldn't have done different things for the rest of it

Thanks! I thought it seemed off. I don't even understand what is going on. Maybe one edge chipped and they tried to fill it with something? I contacted the company...hopefully they can do something about it.

my quartz also had a bad seam. they called me over and said "this will be a bad seam. we have this problem with quartz. we'll get the front to match perfectly but there is a twist that will end in the back.

i think it wasnt as bad as that. i put my coffee pot on it and havent thought about it again til i saw this picture.

If it was in the back I don't think we would really worry about it, and would probably just put a cutting board over it, but the back is beautiful! It's pretty noticeable in the front, unfortunately.

That is definitely not a great seam. You shouldnt have to think of things to cover the areas that look bad. Seams in lighter quartz are usually a little harder to hide, and the front part of the seam looks pretty nice and tight. I'm not sure what they did on the back, looks like it was cut uneven. I would call and ask for someone to come look at it. If you have a good fabricator, a lot of things can be fixed without replacing.

Get it replaced. seams should be almost invisible. bad workmanship.

WMW, I think the OP said that the uneven area in the seam is on the front of the countertop, not the back.

I would absolutely refuse this seam.

OMG is there a contractor out there that cares and does the right thing? Call them back for sure.

I know! I feel like if they try to fix it, it could come out worse, so It might be nice to to get a little money back. I just wish it could have come out right in the first place.

yes, i remember wishing that too :) I had them try to fix mine and it was "better" but still unacceptable at full price.

This can be repaired by matching the seam with a an epoxy terrazzo mix.with the color taken from the lab.

But this shouldn't be your expense.

so...the installer came to repair today. At first glance it looked great. From an angle, our new countertops now have a dull spot much bigger than the original defected area. Ugh! I don't see how they can fix this, and not sure if we want them to try!

Did they work the surface with a grinder and polishing pads? Repairs on tops of Quartz are not easy to do in the best of conditions (in the fab shop with the best of tools and water flying everywhere) as for in a house it's irresponsible for them to even attempt , Granite no problem. They are dumping more money and even worst, reputation into a lost cause. Not acceptable.

He said they sanded and used a bunch of chemicals to fix the original problem with the seam. This is very frustrating. The slab on the right of the seam was perfect until they sanded it. Now both slabs are damaged with a dull spot. This is not what we paid for and from online research I can't see how they can permanently fix it.

That repair is unacceptable and I don't think you will ever be happy with that smudgy dull area on your new countertop. Demand that they replace the whole thing! It was their fault that it was not cut perfectly in the first place. I hope this works out for you. This discussion site is full of examples of poor craftsmanship. Stand firm.

oh man. this is not the update i wanted to see. its time for them to stop wasting everyone's time and just replace the darn thing.

It looks like there is still some more work to do on the seam. It isn't necessarily a simple fix but your fabricator should be able to do it. It is unlikely that replacing the top will be necessary. I suggest giving them an opportunity to correct the problem. You shouldn't have to settle for a countertop that you are unhappy with.

We definitely don't want to replace it. In a perfect world, we want some money back. It just seems like way too much hassle, especially after we've already had plumbing work done, etc. We've given them two chances to get it right. I'm not sure if I trust this company to come back because they made the problem worse to me the second time. I think I'd rather have a wonky loony seem than a way bigger full dpot that is much more noticeable. Ugh! We can live with this obviously, but I didn't pay thousands of dollars to have damaged new countertops that I have to look at everyday.

I know this is totally unrelated and I'm so sorry to hear about your seam issues :( but how long did your quartz take from the time they took the template to installation? I just posted about this because I ordered the silestone lagoon and its been three weeks without counters and they are blaming it on silestone being from Europe for the wait.

Would it be possible to cut out a large portion of the quartz and refabricate it with the new piece and hopefully better seams? Other wise say We are done. Start over with new piece and fabrication at the shop. Get some backbone; the contractor wants this over and will resist any and all repairs if you let him.

It is up to you to be FIRM, FAIR, and FRIENDLY and INSISTENT ABOUT WHAT YOU EXPECT FROM A PROFESSIONAL TRADESMAN.

Andrea... i was surprised on how fast it came. I believe it was about a week and a half. We went through a big box store if that makes a difference? So the update is that they replace the entire countertop and handled all of the plumbing redo. Our seam is perfect now. I feel like the company sent in a more experienced crew the second time around. It was also scheduled and installed quickly.

I am so happy for you! Post picture! We also went through Lowes to order ours but they hire out independent contractors so it must be our contractor. I'll let you know if I ever get mine :(

When we had our problems, lowes was pretty on top of things in terms if trying to fix it. They worked with an independent contractor as well....i think they want to make sure that are partnered with the right people, so they should help you.

quartz is too expensive to have the installation look like that. They are in the business of selling and installing quartz. They cannot blame there sloppy installation on the quartz. Insist that they come back and replace it, not patch it, replace it.
