I did not take a picture when I bought the crassula ovata gollum back I think 2013? But it is one in the group in this 2014 Feb picture.

Re-potted it separate from others and this was taken @2015 Aug

2016 Feb (wintering inside )

Did some cuts on the spring of 2017, basically cut the right branches from 2016 Feb's pic, then push leftest branches (two branches one is blocked in 2016 Feb's pic) to straight, looking from right of the 2016 Feb's picture is the new front.

2017 May

Thought the nodes distance of the left branch is too long to my like. Did the cut @2017 May.

And now, 2018 Feb, thinking about cut the tall branch, again, thought the nodes distance is too long.

the red line is where I am going to cut, your thoughts?

What is the circumference of that trunk at the soil line And at the spot (red line) where you want to cut it? And how far are those 2 measurements apart?

If you do cut it, and don't want it, please send it to me. ! I was thinking you might want to cut the lower branches to get them out of the way. Cut at the red line, you'll certainly have a nice big trunk, but will it ever look somewhat normal at the point of the cut? Not from a healing standpoint, but shape. Or will branches grow out of that?

I would cut at the red line, yes. It is time.

JeffO: I thought about cut all the lower branches, but I am afraid they will keep growing back because there are several branches cut before. also the height from soil line to top is 14.5 inches. I feel where it branches is a little too high. I know what you mean - once cut the main branch, the diameter of other branches probably not proportional compare to the main trunk. (Sorry the cutting is already claimed for otherwise I will send it to you.)

Hoovb: thanks. It probably too earlier here but I am going to put it under light.

Rina: the diameter at the soil line is 2 inches to 2.3 inches, not a perfect round shape. the diameter at the cut line is 1 inch.

It is a done deal - blame the long winter I get very itchy :) Can't not glue it back but can wait for the branches to grow and see what surprises they will give me. :)

rockdale, that all makes sense. That's really nice of you to give it to somebody. I'd love to see its progress if you would ever want to post photos of it.

I think it'll end up surprising you at how well it'll turn out and fix whatever problem we may think we foresee ;) it'll probably involve a lot of pinching is my guess but it's a totally uneducated guess.

P.s. it's gonna be awesome

That sounds like a pretty good taper for a trunk. I prefer to see them 'fat' at the bottom too. I don't really see any problems; while you are quite gutsy in making that cut (I would likely be more hesitant), it is giving you nice, fat trunk.

I never pruned my Gollum except for 2 or 3 small branches to propagate. Now I am considering taking out 1 of the older, thicker branches - still not sure. There are 3 growing from the same spot and maybe 1 should go (maybe even 2!):
