Engineered is not inferior to solid, it can be be made more expensively than solid with thicker hardwood wear layer, longer and wider boards. In our Minnesota market, we recommend solid up to 5" wide. If you prefer the popular longer and wider look, the only option is engineered. Keep it in mind, engineered is not made equal. Some has paper thin rotary peeled veneer in 5/16" total thickness while others have up to 1/4" wear layer in total 3/4' total thickness. Rest are all in between. Hope this will help your decision.
