Simpson being more production and Trustile from what I recall more easily customizable (although honestly I dealt more with their MDF in my residential days) and made to order. Most Simpson products are available from the distributor inventory (although they have to hang the door in the frame and rout for hinges and bore for the lockset). I would have no qualms about Simpson and they do predominantly D. Fir where as TruStile uses a much wider variety of woods although MDF is their bread and butter.

Fiber Classic is a better door from TT than the Smooth Star quality wise. Masonite brand anything is a builder grade at best (especially from a box store in my opinion).

Reply to: I sell both Thermatru and Provia. I sell 90% fiberglass because it is not much more than steel, and I think its a much better product. Provia is a better built door (one of the best ,IMO), but Thermatru's FG products are pretty nice, especially their higher end products. Some of the info above may be outdated as all of the doors that I order are prefinished, and they have a pretty extensive selection of glass and other options as well.

Reply to: I have never sold Provia (either under this name or their previous name) but back a few years ago I sold the hell out of Therma Tru. As HomeSealed states their high end products are a good solid product if properly installed and maintained.

Reply to: Albany, Home Guard and Provia are all topotch produtc. Therman Tru is realistically while a better poduct than the average lumberyard door, a large step below those brands in quality. All said, the pricing you were quoted sounds well within reason.

Reply to: I would visit a real window and door showroom locally but the only brand I would entertain from your Google search would be TruStile. In fact they are a very good door. The others me, really just online retailers.

Reply to: Provia, Homeguard, HMI & Albany are the best. Therma Tru is an OK door unit. Not that familar with Pella FG Doors but I personally don't like anything about their windows so would probably not recommend their doors.

Reply to: Simpson makes a very nice door. Just make certain the shop who hangs the door in the frame knows what they are doing. Pick a SOLID frame (not finger joint), make sure the frame is sealed all sides well, it sits in a proper sill pan or properly flashed opening. And the most important fact that never seems to be accomplished finish ALL 6 SIDES OF THE DOOR!!! And do not order it from a box store......

Reply to: Nothing Pella or Jeldwen in my humble opinion. Therma Tru does not make wood. I would look for Simpson, or Rogue Valley or Lemieux if you cannot get a local door shop to make you a custom mahogany door.

Reply to: If your looking at Therma Tru look at the Classic Craft line in Mahogany as that is pretty dam close to a wood look. Jeldwen is mediocre and Plastpro is quite a bit lower than that in my opinion.
